Someone gained access to my psn account, added funds and bought some games (games I already own on disc). Why would they do this?

Anyone know what to do in this sort of situation - contact details for sony etc? Already stopped my credit card.

As I understand it (from previously having read one or two stories a few years ago) get a crime ref number from the Police, then contact Sony with the reference number so they can supply any IPs and/or log data to them. I imagine it should also help with getting refunds and such processed as it should make it clearer you're not some person who doesn't like the games and is trying any excuse to get their money back.

Obvious other suggestions are change passwords for any other services that will be associated with your email account and any other accounts that would have the same username, etc... if you haven't already.

I had this last year. Someone hacked my account and i foolishly left my bank details logged in (though i could never get it to.work, hence why i left them in)

Anyway, cancel your cards then phone sony in the morning. Dony t bother with the police as theres nothing they can do.

Sony wont give you a refund either but will cancel the thiefs ps3/4 and remote lock it or whatever they do.

Youll then get the chance to download the game but you wont be able to get a refund.

I was given assassins creed 4 which wasnt a bad game actually.

Ever since then, i just buy the virtual dodownloads. Credits you get from game

Credit card company refunded the charges. Not sure whether I should use the games though.

Update on this. I've been banned. SCEE say I'm responsible for the security of my account and say I owe them for the games. I do not know how someone could get my password and enter it on another machine. The password is entered very rarely and if it is, no one can see me entering it. Also, looks like they're taking no action against the person that purchased the games so I suspect its someone under 18.

I know it's not the same thing, but they can't exactly claim their systems are well protected can they?

This one is probably more relevant:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-28925052

I can't get my head around it, they want to make me responsible for the actions of someone who hacked my account.

I've been banned because someone gained access to my account (on a different machine), added funds from my credit card and purchased games. My card company refunded the transactions but sony want the money back so I'm banned until I pay them.

From Sony's perspective - you gave your account details to a friend, they buy/download games, then you get a chargeback. Someone logging into your account had your password - and its security is your responsibility under Sony T&C.

Not saying that you did this, or that you were unsafe with your password, but their position on the matter is understandable, surely.

Can't you just make a new PSN account?

Does this still require the last three digits from your card?

I understand this position.

What I don't understand is why they can't ban the machine that added the games and hold the debt to their account. Also why isn't this a matter for the police, someone has used my credit card illegally and sony are holding me responsible.

I can make a new psn account but then I lose all my saved games etc and they still are holding me accountable for a debt. One of the games I have a physical copy of anyway.

The point is the debt was incurred on your account, not the persons that actually did it, so Sony can't move the debt to their account, it may not even exist. Even if it does how can anyone prove it was actually that person who used your account?
I would presume they will ban the machine used for the purchases?

IMHO what they should do is lock your account to the machine, maybe let you have 3 or even 5 playstations that your account is enabled on. Any other PS cannot be used to sign in with your account. Adding or removing permitted machines requires an authentication email and/or a second password. Sky do this with their online service.

Report it to the police as card fraud, I don't see a reason why not.

I try to ensure my card details are not stored online anywhere and only used at payment point.

Oh well.

I guess the moral of this story is do not enter your credit card details into your playstation network account because their security is useless. If your account is hacked sony make you 100% responsible for it. No one else had access to my ps4 and yet someone on another machine logged into my account.

That stupid driveclub, I put my CC details in to buy that piece of crap game and shortly after my account was comprised.
