Don't think it was eve supposed to work other than between two Macs.
Mine worked on Mavericks between a 2011 MBP and a 2013 iMac.

For those feeling disenfranchised about continuity and have a slightly earlier Mac than officially supported:

Bought a new MBPr that arrived about 3 weeks ago, just before the full Yosemite release. It had Mavericks on it, which was alright but I have always been more interested in Yosemite as it feels like this is the start of the 'next generation' software. I would have waited for the new rumoured new hardware too, if I hadn't "needed" (<--- in a first world way) a new computer straightaway.

Took the plunge last night to format/ clean install - even though the Mavericks install was hardly used, paid another $10 to upgrade to airmail 2 rolleyes and have been poking around. I have to say i immediately liked the look - it looks very good on the retina screen, very crisp. I chose dark mode straightaway as I always prefer white on dark text. The overall view feels to me very much like Ubuntu/ Mint linux, which I also like. I think this formula is here to stay for a while.

So far no glitches either, which I am pleased about... Will see how we go!

Everything just seems slicker.

I still don't regret ordering a new Macbook Air though. I want to be able to answer calls etc from my Macbook which I can't do at the moment.
Why? Calls and sms run on any mac capable of running yosemite.

Annoyed that I can't get the functions I really looked forward to getting for a machine that's just over two years old.
Continuity should work for calls and texts, handoff may not.
Working fine on a mid2009 macbook pro for me.

Thing is Zoon, I don't see any options for Handoff/Continuity under General in System Preferences. I'll have a look. Could always test it with a friend. Cheers for letting me know.

My 2009 MBP has turned into a beach ball recently even for the simplest of tasks.

The delay in it all matching up means it's just not working.

Anyway... Because man maths biggrinbiggrin

I thought exactly the same, all the Mac experts were saying it wouldn't work with anything before 2012 without BLE(MacBook wise) but the odd thing is the settings for calls and sms aren't under preferences.

For calls you need to go into FaceTime and enable cellular calls on both iPhone and Mac.
For sms you need to go into message settings and enable text forwarding on the iPhone and pair the phone to your Mac.

It's almost as though Apple purposely hid the settings for this, althought I'm sure that's not the case.

I was about to buy a new macbook air but after finding my existing one runs the two features which are useful to me I don't need to. Handoff is a bit of a gimmick for me, but the calls and sms is great if the phone is charging in another room.

Just picked up my new Macbook Air and it didn't have Yosemite on it.

Such a PITA as its got loads of upgrades and updates it needs to do before I can start installing software!

Surely you just update the OS and the rest will be updated already?

I'm waiting for a new iMac Retina, ordered from Apple Store Uk. I'm assuming it will come with Yosemite installed from out of the box?

Asking because I'm reading here that you bought a new MacBook Air but it was the older OS?

My first apple, I'm a little apprehensive!

Had a drool at one this morning in the Apple Store whilst purchasing a Retina MBP for the missus.

You will not be disappointed....

Ha!

My advert said the same thing.

Knew something was wrong when the icons were a modern looking affair.

st, hope my introduction to Apple isn't spending the first several hours bringing it up to date! That's one of the reasons I turned to the dark side in the first place scratchchin
