Apparently JB has had talks with Porsche.

Not so sure, more likely to Toyata? He's big in Japan.

Also, hasn't he said he does feel LM and the WEC are not safe due to the differing classes and levels of driver competence?

Maybe Nissan then, when they come with their LMP1 offering?

Could be a good move.
Saw an interview recently with Mark Webber.
He looked a happy chappie, relaxed, confident and putting in some good times.
Reckon that could suit Jenson at this stage of his career.
Cheers, Pewe.

I have always thought JB would be an excellent choice for the WEC. He's smooth and consistent with a great skill in tyre choice etc. His experience is enough to see him slot straight in. Nissans LMP1 team for 2015 don't have a driver line-up yet and as mentioned, he's very popular in Japan and very well respected.

According to Radio Le Mans Porche and Nissan are both taking 3 cars to the 24 next year, so there's at least 12 factory P1 seats up for grabs, should be an interesting winter.

Porsche have 6 seats and 6 drivers, with many more factory drivers in the wings; do they need another big name outsider, but one with no endurance experience, in the squad?
Porsche don't need a big name to sell their brand.

What Porsche need is another big name in the WEC, to sell the series more, so more people are switched on to Porsche racing there.

You boost the profile of the series, you boost your profile

I know you are referring to LMP1. I am too.

As a former world champ I would say Button has more pulling power than MW.

I was just suggesting a reason why they may not be using someone already 'on the roster' as it were. It is easy to forget that the VAST majority of the world don't look at motorsport in anywhere near the detail we do. Outside of the die hard community people gravitate towards drivers rather than marques.

re: Patrick Dempsey - you wouldn't hire him for top flight for the same reason Bayern Munich wouldn't have signed Michael Schumacher - there is a high profile name known as a keen and very able hobbyist in the sport and there is stretching the limits of credibility in employing them.

The best Patrick Dempsey could possibly be would be a silver category driver. He drives in GTE AM (and before in LMP 2) because they are required to have a "gentleman" driver and aren't allowed more than one platinum or gold driver. In LMP 1 on the other hand, with a free choice, it is rare to find even a gold driver. It's normally platinum all the way for the top teams.

I think it would be good for the WEC brand as well as for Jenson - not sure Porsche is the best option for him (or the brand)it would be good to have ex F1 drivers as competitors rather than team mates I think.

Might also tempt Mr Brawn to return ?

Radio Le Mans did say there is another big name entry for lmp1 that hasn't been announced yet so it could be that team, personally I think he'll stay at Mclaren for 2015. He knows honda, big in japan and who better to partner Alonso if he ends up there. Personally though If I were in charge at Mclaren I'd have JEV in there like a flash! Red bull academy driver, yes please!
