A £35/£40k Aston will depreciate a lot less than a new BMW - and you'll be driving an Aston smile Save money and feel great!

I suspect if you like the colour you are well positioned to drive a deal on price. It's been there for a while.
I don't think it's been there that long as the price ends with the number "1" which means they've had it on sale for under 10 days IIRC.

I think that the early cars are a great buy. I bought my 2006 4.3 for £36k in June 2012 and sold it back to garage earlier this year at £30k+. It had done 39,950 miles and they sold it within a week or so.

The 4.7's also seem to hold their value well, myself and ds2000 bought two at the same time 2 years ago. They still retail now around what we paid (with slightly higher miles).

Not sure about the final digit, but they told me that they list cars on the Stratsone website first and then if it hasn't sold they go on the main used Aston site after 10 days. That aside, I don't know of a sure fire way to determine how long they have been sitting on a car.

yes

Another thing to consider is putting a great private plate on your Aston (I hear that V888AMV is available wink). Most people won't have a clue how old the car is - but they will know that you drive an Aston Martin smile

Why does it matter if people know how old your car is? Honest question...

I think the point Molly is making is that for the money you can buy a new BMW for you can have the Aston Martin sitting on your drive and to the majority of people you have a £90K car sat there as they know no different.
It doesn't matter if people know how your car is, my plate was purchased for me by my wife many years back and gets moved onto each of my cars as they are changed. It doesn't get moved so people can't work out how old the car is but because until they have my plate on they aren't my car in my mind, silly to many maybe but that is just me.
To the uninitiated the Vantage has changed very little in its 9 years so you can have a car that people think is basically new if you so desire, won't make a jot of difference to the majority but to some it will.
Irrespective of all that it is still very pleasing that you could buy a 4.3 Vantage enjoy it and loose a lot less money than buying a premium euro box of the same value.

Honest question...

As someone who obtains a strange satisfaction from unnecessarily running an old daily driver, it does not matter at all to me.

However, the following probably shows that many people do seem very concerned about perceived status.

Car sales in March = 400,000
Car sales in September = 400,000
Car sales other months = 150,000

As long as a Fiesta or a Wagon R has the latest plate, --- add the your own words here ---

Never understood the logic of that, would prefer to buy in the slowest month on the basis of getting a better deal. A new car is a new car whichever month you get it in.

v8 Obergi.... You sir are very rude!
On a serious note it's all down to personal preference. I had one of the first 'Aston specced' cars to come off the production line new in 05 and loved the colour combination so much that when I bought my current car (57 plate)., having viewed various combinations I bought exactly the same colour.
On photos iron ore and black cherry look awful. For some reason the leather takes on a pinky red hue. In the flesh however it is a very dark Bordeaux and with piano black ski slope looks the dogs Jodders as far as I'm concerned.
Black with silver or white stitch was my very distant second option. Not a fan of black with red stitch. Thinks it's trying too hard to look like a racey fast car (or an MG Metro).
Kestrel. Best stick to the feathered variety. As I say tho. It's all down to personal choice.

But the newer plate car will be worth more come selling/trade-in time.

Car bought on 31st Aug: 14 plate. Car bought 1st Sept: 64 plate. Second car is one day 'older' but worth more.

(Apologies in advance for the egg sucking lesson).

J12KJR answered that point very well for me but the simple answer is .... It doesn't matter. However our egos would have it that, generally speaking, we would rather our neighbours guessed we had a 64 plate car than an 05 & with an Aston being rare enough that the average punter wouldn't know the difference there is a particularly good case for putting a private plate on an older car.

Having said that....we put V888AMV on 3 new Astons so perhaps you could call that reverse psychologybiggrin. We are, as you may know, moving over to the dark side now & I've bought Rob a plate to go on the new car too - & this one has '03' on it!

No need to apologise although I was thinking more along the lines of preceding months not the day before. would also wonder if the saving you make by not being one of the herd would more than offset the extra you might get back for your one day newer car.

Hi,
I thought I would resurrect this post as it's quite interesting to see how prices have been.
As I said in my original post I was after a V8V to replace my Lotus Esprit S4s but prices were out of my reach at the time so I bought a TVR Cerbera instead. Having had that for nearly 2 years & 5000 miles I sold it recently ( for nearly £3.5k more than I bought it for ) so thoughts have returned to purchasing an V8V only to find prices are very similar if not higher than they were nearly 3 years ago !
I haven't taken much notice over the last few years but did prices drop & then go back up or have they remained fairly stable ?
Phil.

Pretty stable as far as I have seen. Started saving a fair few years ago, prices didn't move, decided to pony up for a 4.3 as soon as I could afford it.

I think I paid something like £32,500 for mine (black, 2006, 36k miles) two years ago. It's got something like 42k on it now, and I'd expect at least what I paid for it. So I don't think they dipped.

It could be worse. I was planning to sell one of my other cars (but changed my mind this morning). I paid £39.5k for that 3.5 years ago, put it up for £55k yesterday and it became clear pretty quickly it was under priced!

Ive just been offered £33k straight cash off a local dealer for my May 06 V8V with 27k miles full history (8 Aston 2 Bridge Mill). Meteorite with obsidian interior with a few options mint condition. Said he would retail at his garage for £37995 and he wouldn't expect it to hang around long...
