I saw a Marcos yesterday and noticed that engine and gearbox did lose some drops of oil. Is this normal for a RV8 and for the gearbox?

What colour was the oil? If it was dark, then it is likely to be leaking from engine. This is usually the lowest point where the hot oil travels when the car is running. Could be a cheap fix or the rear crank oil seal. The gear box oil may well be red in colour.

But.....normally it should be dry? These engines are not known for dropping a little bit?

Mine used to drip from the horizontal selector rod that goes into the box - there is a feeble o ring there which eventually lets the oil past. You cant change it without stripping the gearbox, so the last time I had my box rebuilt, they machined it to take a proper oil seal. No drips since. Or the engine can drip from the rocker cover gaskets, or from under the clamped rubber seal at the back of the valley gasket.
