Woke up a bit later than planned and feeling slightly hungover, (but I don't drink so don't know how that happened), so I missed the good weather. Now its blowing a gale, and a friends weather station has recorded 40 mph gusts!

Do you lot go out in conditions like this, or just chalk it up to experiance and do something else? I live at the start of the fens so there is no shelter on my routes, and I have been blown on to the other side of the road before.

Bad weather I find provides the best training ground - can be a bit depressing sometimes but ploughing on into a headwind is a great workout! Also when I am in London adverse weather means less people going round Richmond Park which is a huge bonus. As long as you are prepped kit-wise and ready to brace against strong gusts I say get out there...

I get the MTFU point, but correct clothing or not, your going to censored notice a 40 mph side wind!

It's very rare that winds are so high to be an issue so I can't really recall having to make a decision. Heasdwinds don't bother me so much but I'm not a fan of gusty side winds.

I'll rode in most conditions. Nothing much bothers me over short ride (<2 hours) but I bloody despise rain on longer rides, not because I get cold (I wear decent clothing) but because of the reduced visibility, poor braking and increased chance of p*unctures from the extra debris on the road.

Depends, part of my commute is along a busy A road, occasionally I've aborted if there's a risk of being blown into traffic. Headwinds are an integral part of training living in the fens smile

Was in Lanzarote in February, winds gusting to 75mph but never stopped me going out, just have to be careful when descending in the cross winds.

Timanfaya down to Playa Blanca at 48mph made for some scary moments but it was great fun

This post was brought to you by ignoring V-rules 5 & 9.... wink

Unless he followed them, if so, Kudos (make sure you get a good wind-assisted KOM).

I'd be out, if I wasn't so busy procrastinating over the work I'm supposed to be doing. There's a certain satisfaction to be had when out in rotten conditions, while most chicken out.

It was pretty windy this morning, especially out on the Isle of Grain where it's pretty exposed, made the mistake of riding out with a tail wind, the slog back home wasn't fun!

Been out and came back. Met a guy who lives on the next road and is a memeber of the local masachistic club (Triathlon) who advised its not nice out there. Trees and branches are down in the roads and he came off in a gust.

Going for a walk instead. Any exercise is good, right!

There's certainly some savage winds out there. I crossed the M4 on a high bridge just east of J16 and thought the wind was going to push the bike right out from under me. Even less fun than riding into it there and back!

Pretty dry down in North Hampshire this morning, patches of standing water, nice and warm with a few strong gusts. My first group ride larger than 4, some of the side gusts could catch you unaware but quite a nice run. Lots of people out in full length water proofs which was a little over the top.

Today was a valuable lesson in fitness, or lack of it.

Should have been around Herts/Beds way. I was at Woburn Sands - in the woods there was no wind at all. We were complaining about the heat!

I was in Yorkshire in August following some of the Tour route.

The top of Buttertubs (I think) wasn't fun, getting blown across bot side of the road with steep drop on one side and on coming cars on the other.
Similar experience coming down Holme Moss. As I cut a corner to over take the person I was drafting, spinning-out as I could only use the inner ring, getting a shimmy on as I was hit by the cross winds. Ditch on one side and cars on the other, I was a truly scary experience.

While wind wouldn't stop me going out, it definitely make me think about where i'll ride.

I'm having a pop at Stage 2 at the end of November. I secretly wouldn't mind a bit of Yorkshire weather but that doesn't sound like fun.
