I'll happily go out in the rain. Wind however gets right on my pip and I'll find something else to do if it's too strong.

Should have been around Herts/Beds way. I was at Woburn Sands - in the woods there was no wind at all. We were complaining about the heat!
I am, I'm just out side Sandy on the top of the hill by the TV mast!

It was pretty windy this morning, especially out on the Isle of Grain where it's pretty exposed, made the mistake of riding out with a tail wind, the slog back home wasn't fun!

Went out and did just shy of 70 with the club.

It was dry and warm, but bloody hell, the wind was savage. Cross winds on one road were actually getting a bit scary.

Yeah it's ok as long as you don't stop or talk to anyone. Rode out there a few years ago with a lady friend and I bonked big time. Stopped in a newsagents in Allhallows to get some sweets and it felt like when they're stuck in The Winchester in Shaun of the Dead.

I know the area from going out to the demolition range at Yantlet, and when I did my signaller course when 12 RSME Regiment was still at Chattenden Barracks (showing my age there). They'd send us out in LandRovers onto Grain following clues to locations, where we'd answer questions over the radio in code to get the next clue. I remember we (my syndicate) were threatened with being thrown off the course for stopping for a 'swift half' at a pub out there while waiting for our next location. That really was like being trapped in the Winchester... wink

Great stuff smile My ride this morning took me past the church that was Dicken's inspiration for the graveyard at the start of Great Expectaions, where the escaped convict turns up, it was nice and sunny this morning despite the wind, would not want to be out there when it's dark and foggy. Some great views over the Thames estuary though and over to Essex, would be a real shame if Boris's airport plans ever did happen and the area was concreted over.

Not the fun kind unfortunately. "Friendzoned" years ago, probably a good thing, we've been good mates for years :-)

I had a decent ride out on Saturday, chalking up 20 miles & 1500 feet of climbing on the mtb. However, at times on the chalk trails, it was treacherous, the highlight being a small application of rear brake on a flat section causing me to 180 the bike. Lesson: Don't brake. I can only describe parts of it as trying to cycle on soap.

Been out and came back. Met a guy who lives on the next road and is a memeber of the local masachistic club (Triathlon) who advised its not nice out there. Trees and branches are down in the roads and he came off in a gust.

!
Everyone knows that Triathletes are, without exception, terrible bike handlers, so that shouldn't have put you off smile

Your missing the basics.

For every headwind, there is a tailwind. Head out in a circular route, headwind first, and fly home. One of the best rides when it can be done.

Embrace the pain. It's the same resistance you would get either way, on a circular route, it's just the intensity that differs.

Depends on what the weather is. Rain and cold fine, wind usually fine, except for (like today) gusting side winds.

As Winston said - don't fancy getting fling into the path of cars on an NSL road

I hate riding in the rain, it just makes me miserable.

Only time I've aborted a ride was earlier in the year, trying to cross the old Seven bridge and my front wheel got lifted up by the wind and then pushed me 3ft to the other side of the cycle path right next to the railings yikes

The storm coming up the river was like something out of middle earth!

I don't mind the cold as long as my hands and feet don't freeze up. I thought there was a rule for this but they've been taken down, presumably as they're now flogging a book with them in?
