Keyboard for gaming...
Discussion
I currently have a Mad Catz CYBORG which is a 'gaming' keyboard, although I'm not that happy with it. Quite a flimsy design and the buttons are quite stiff, which isn't really a problem for the WASD type gaming but when I'm typing its not particularly comfortable. It uses rubber domes which is quiet, and the back lighting is nice but overall I'm looking for something new.
I've seen what I think is a Razer keyboard with mechanical keys in my local PC World, and having mashed the keys on that it feels much, much nicer, so I'm in the process of saving a bit of cash to justify the rather eye-watering £90 it costs.
I'd suggest that you just head down to your local PC World or Currys and just see what's on display there. They are laid out on the shelves so you can test them out and find out what's most comfortable for you. A lot of proper gaming keyboards come with a host of extra buttons, but they are of no use to me, all I'm really looking for is back lighting and comfortable key presses that can cope with fast typing and gaming.
ETA: I've thought about those gaming keypads like the Logitech you suggested, and I'm not quite sure about them as a concept. For me at least it would be an extra 'thing' on my desk, as I'd still need my keyboard for everything that isn't playing a game - it would be an interesting toy though.

Where do you play? If it's in the living room with your missus next to you, don't get a mechanical keyboard. If it's in another room then do it. I use a Razer Black Widow stealth and I love it. It's quick, easy on the fingers over prolonged sessions and I benefit from the back-lighting as I play in a dim-lit room.
It's on the quieter end of mechanical keyboards but it's still noisier than a membrane'd one

I think that's the one I saw in the shop, Googling the image it looks the same. The keys felt lovely to press but the £90 price tag (in PC World) is making me wait!Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
