We have a two week trip to South Africa booked for early next year. We're going to have to pay for it shortly, but I'm rather concerned that if the virus spreads and the advice is not to go, where this leaves us and the several thousand pounds paid.

I'm guessing travel insurance is more for issues while you are out there rather than ones that stop you going.

The trip is booked through a tour company, I don't know if they bear any responsibility.

Fully intend to ask both, obviously, but thought it worth tapping into the PH collective in case anyone has any advice, suggestions or ideas?

If you have cover against cancellation it is likely that FCO advice not to travel is a circumstance in which they will pay out. Check your policy.

I don't believe there have been any reported cases of ebola in South Africa in recent years, so I can't imagine it being added to the list of no-go countries any time soon.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it yet tbh - I visit there monthly and can't see a major outbreak happening just yet…..

You are about 4000kms closer to the current source of the Ebola outbreak than S.Africa is. I wouldn't worry about it.
