can you explain the procedure exactly to me please, I've tried to follow the manual but it says turn TCS off but when you push the button the display says ESP off or something.

Also - does the display inbeween the clocks confirm you are in launch mode?
Make sure the car is up to temp
Hold the tcs button for about 20 seconds(pressing it just sets it half off) it should come up that it's off
Put in race mode and gearbox in sport
Foot on the brake and accelerator
Revs will rise then let off the brake
Shout weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee as it takes off like a bat out of hell

These Golf R's are getting great reviews, I'm a big fan and love the red.

That is a great deal, where would I go to get that deal?

Thank you smile

Artwork does display automatically but the head unit is quite fussy on file formats.

it has to be an embedded image (not separate artwork) and can't be any bigger than400px by 400px or it just won't be displayed..
Great, many thanks for this. Looks useful and hopefully will work on my dad's car.

Look forward to hearing from you with updates, especially in relation to launch control.

The standard spec on the R and GTI is really very good and makes them all the more tempting.

Your local vw dealer will match all these lease offers as long as you speak to the fleet guy. The salesman will deny it and tell you they only offer pcp in general.

I got him down to £1500 down and £260 for 23 months for a 5dr red DSG including vat. 10k miles pa

A bit cheaper for a manual. Can't remember the monthly figures but a guy at work got his for a total cost of £6500 over 2 years.

When opting for DSG, does it come with paddle shift as standard or is this an extra?

Nice car! Great colour too. I bought a black one (thread is somewhere on here) recently and it has been providing me with lots of happy motoring experiences.

Thought i would start another thread so i didn't hog the leasing threads.

Anyway, 5 door DSG on a two year lease. Fantastic car smile

Nice car but WTF is 'Race' mode? Does it chuck out all of the interior trim, insert a full roll cage/race seat/extinguisher/ign. cut out, change the brake pads and tyres? I really don't really understand where VAG's marketing heads are if they think that this might possible describe what anyone is going to do on the road in a 300bhp car. Idiots.

FWIW my mk5 Gti has a 'sports' mode. I've used it once in 40k miles, just to see what happened. I think it lasted about 20 seconds.

Opens up the valves in the exhaust, gearbox into sport, changes suspension settings if you have ddc and apparently sharpens throttle response.

Totally changes my car when I put it into it

I really like these. All that interior kit though with its high-res TFT displays and such, and no nav? frown

Then they should change it to the 'Feels Like You're Going Very Fast' button.

race mode changes a number of parameters which is really useful and totally not like the 'sport' buttons of old

I can say this because i've just come from an 09 plate Astra VXR, complete with sport button which literally just amplified the throttle response. Complete waste of time.

The golf on the other hand,

It changes the gearbox settings so that it holds onto the gears longer, quicker (more aggressive) changes
it makes changes to the cruise control
it makes changes to the air conditioning
it makes changes to the level of power assistance on the steering
it opens up the exhaust to full boy racer mode
it changes parameters in the engine
it bumps the idle up slightly (not sure what that does)
it changes the speed of which the front headlights 'bend' when cornering
it reduces the sensitivity of some safety features like TCS and the ABS to allow you a bit more freedom
It tightens up the suspension (if you have DCC)

All in all, it makes it ready for, um, racing smile

Lovin' those pics! Thanks for sharing OP.

P/S: Is there any option for an upgraded sound system? I'm really a big fan of ICE and loving the B&O, H&K and BOSE systems of my previous cars. Not too sure what VW offers though.

Loving mine after 4 months and 3000 miles.

Best thing you can do (in my humble opinion) is unplug the pesky sound actuator and also the exhaust flap control modules = no fake engine noise and all 4 exhaust pipes open all the time. Instant improvement in the soundtrack!
