I know it's been tried before, but no harm in trying again: anyone want to do a PH syndicate for this Friday?

£2 each
Limited to first 150 people (guaranteeing everyone to be a millionaire)
Paid through Paypal gift so no fees to worry about
All contributions to be made by 7pm Friday

I'd happily sort it out, though if I'm not deemed to be trustworthy enough (frown) then I'd happily support someone else.

You could do that now.
I knew somebody would say that, but could I actually?

I don't have much equity in my house since I only bought it a couple of years ago. I don't have any savings as they are all about to be blown on my impending wedding. But lets fast forward say 3 years.

I sell the flat, sell my car, all my belongings and quit my job. If I'm lucky I might have 30 grand to my name. How long will that get me and my wife in some South American paradise? In fact, it wouldn't even matter because 90 days is all I'd get unless I had a Visa regardless. And what are my chances of getting one of those if I don't intend to work a day job, or have no major assets to stick in one of their banks?

But anyway lets pretend I do that somehow for 3 years.

I'd then return to sunny Glasgow with no money (having used my 30k to keep me afloat while out there), no home and no job. Re-employment would see me back to renting again, having essentially thrown away the foothold I have just now on the property market, and delaying any future plans we might ever make to have kids since we'd rather do that when at our most financially responsible.

So, I dare say I could take a stab at it now, but it would be as temporary as any foreign official cares to make it, rather than my own call, and it would mean no life here to ever come back to. More a case of "wouldn't do it" rather than "can't do it".

A substantial lottery win means I don't ever have to worry about what comes after. Like I said - I'd have the comfort and safety of knowing no situation is permanent and could basically assume any walk of life, anywhere, that I fancy, whenever I want.

Oooh 143 mil "scratches head"

First things first, to the pub for a few scoops and a notepad to start jotting down ideas.

Need to change my current career into something more enjoyable so would ring up all my tenants and tell them thry can live rent free for as long as they want as long as they dont bother me with any issues whatsoever.

DW motorsports to be set up, primarily for BTCC and support series, with a st hot driving academy to bring through new young talent. Thats work sorted for now.

Cars- first on my list is something smart for a daily hack, bently conti or aston something or other.

Then i will need a weekend blaster so the car which makes the bks tingle most currently is a ferrari 360CS. Followed by a Ferrari GTO (80's version). They will be used and abused not garaged as i dont want too many vehicles.

Let the mrs chose a family hack and a sports car.

Build a new house in same area but to my spec, nothing too grand, 2 mil tops.

Sort out family and friends, then start thinking about worthwhile charities to support.

That's pretty big of you. biggrin

Seriously, I really do believe that some people on this thread simply do not understand what 143 million actually is.

Look after mum/dad/brother/sisters with a nice lump sum.
Nieces and nephews would get money in a trust fund for when they are older.
Close friends(approx 10) would also get a nice lump sum.

Various charities, BLESSMA/H4H/RBL/animal charities.

I would by a house in the countryside, have a purpose built workshop built ready for classic car restoration and restore various cars at my leisure.
I would go to loads of military vehcile shows all over the world.

With grandstand views of the Harrods GP. Unsure if that's a good thing or not.

£150,000,000 is a huge amount!

I'd probably give £1 million to 25 of my closest family and friends.
Then spread another £25 million across other friends

That would be a Job in itself!

Probably a house in each part of the UK Wales (obviously), Scotland etc

I'd probably spend the first year or so seeking out a great condition Lamborghini Miura SV then sort out any issues with it being sent back to Lamborghini.
Then I'd probably spend the rest of my life doing what ever I feel like.

Yeah but its just a thread of how you would spend it, not how you would react or deal with it.

It's not as otherworldly as it would have been 20 years ago, thanks to inflation and the arrival of ze russians. I remember the furore when the first big lottery win was £17 million. That wouldn't go far in london now, but it would still be life changing everywhere else.

Well, yeah, but it is slightly more than enough to say to your missus, 'hey love, we've won 143 million on the lottery, so you can choose the new family hack, oh, and get yourself an MX-5 whilst you're at it. I know, I'm too good to you:' biggrin

A lot of suggestions to give "£1m each to my family and friends".

You realise that you will probably ruin their lives?
