Should my '05 JCW have a mesh insert in the bonnet scoop?

Not seen one without so maybe I'm missing mine.
Or does it restrict airflow too much.

NO carbon stuff recommendations though please.

Definitely not...only non-R53 S' have mesh as they're blanked off, for show, not purpose. R53 should be nice and open for the IC.

Thanks - it does look a bit odd / unfinished though, hence the question.

I'll keep picking the small birds out of the engine bay then
