In the 80s Mk1 Escort, another Mk1 Escort, Sunbeam Ti, Spitfire, GT6....

All when they were around the bottom of the market, just oldish cars, sold for between £200 and £600.

Now £100K......! weeping but we can all look back..... And I was happy at the time, the Z8 gave me a little profit..... Anyway i'v got three BMW's tucked away now which I don't intend to sell, a 840 Sport individual,a Z3 M Coupe, and a M3 Evo Convertible all low mileage and ALL Dakar Yellow......! cloud9

Small fry, but my MR2 Turbo was, IIRC £2750 or so when I bought it and sold it for £2500 or so. The condition it was in was good, and would be worth around £4000 or so now I think.
Blimey. Just checked the prices of them. They were rock bottom at one point but are climbing up a fair bit now.

There must be some tears from a few ex-911 owners given what some are going for at the moment. Ditto 2-door Rangies.
I kick myself every day for passing up a beautiful '84 911 Carrera. This was about 2 years ago, I had the chance to pick it up for $15k US, it would have easily appreciated in value since then, instead I bought a 2002 Boxster S that depreciated like mad in the year I owned it.

My dad scrapped a Ford Capri in 2000 (approx £60?) as it had sat in the garden behind the garage for 10 years. Nothing wrong with it, as grandad emigrated and gave it to my dad who didn't want it - but didn't want to upset him as it was his pride and joy. Just needed all fluids and filters changing and would of been fine I reckon.

Looking at the prices now on eBay, I'm glad he doesn't use the internet.

Biggest regret in my motoring life, selling an BMW E30 M3 in 2002 for not very much money.
Came very close to buying one 8-9yrs ago for £8500, possibly a bad decision biggrin

Sold my mint Mk2 Escort 7yrs ago for £1100, was an estate but still be worth much more now I would think. The young lad that bought it rolled it & wrote it off I found out recently frown

Also been having a look at them earlier.

Bought mine for £4500 in 2009 and sold it end of last year for £4500! Gone up even more in a year!

You have to be careful to differentiate between appreciation and keeping pace with inflation.

Many old cars now look like they've made money - but in real terms, the price has been stable.

Not sure what they're worth nowadays, but I made a few quid on them anyway, so mustn't grumble.
