Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Discussion
I picked this up as it looked interesting and found it to be a really enjoyable game.
Its basically Batman: Arkham Asylum in terms of playstyle but in a more open setting than the city but it works well.
Its set some 2000 years after the end of LOTR and a resurgent Mordor with Captains and chiefs you have to fight but with special abilities as you are sort of possessed with an elf lord soul.
its an 18 rating which was surprising but its because its quite violent, finishing moves can behead etc, imagine the fights in Batman Arkham but Batman just killing folk instead of knocking unconscious, same fight style with groups and parrying\ chain combos to some degree.
Good story so far and only 2 hours in
Worth a go if you liked arkham games and LOTR.

I enjoyed it and got the full 1000/1000GS from it. Wasn't it set after The Hobbit, but before LOTR?
I think you are right Re: the setting. They keep referring to the last time Sauron was defeated and Gollum appears so I was a bit confused. They must mean the time Sauron was defeated long ago, and this is the build up to the story of what happened to Mordor before LOTR period.
That makes a lot more sense now
Having never played any of the assasins creed games, batman was my only point of reference. Uts great as a stress reliever after dying...lots in Alien, or losing the will to live trying to solo certain parts of Destiny's story missions with gauntlet run, horde, rush waves..... sigh
Anyway, like an ex GF, im crawling back to destiny after moaning about it last few days....I'm only level 6 lol.

Yes, I'm no LOTR expert, I've only watched the films, but Sauron's had a few lickings I think. They must mean the time Sauron was defeated long ago, and this is the build up to the story of what happened to Mordor before LOTR period.

I also agreed it's closer to Assassin's Creed than Batman, though the combat system is a near 100% lift straight from the Batman games (even the skills are analogous and even use the same controls, combat execution being Y+B for example, quick-throw weapon on the left trigger etc), but the way you traverse the environment is more AC.
A good game, and I enjoyed it, especially the captain and warchief character generation - they were a lot more interesting than the main story baddies. And the detail and animation of the Uruk characters was amazing too.
