Is it a case of waiting till the oil is up to temperature then to drive it fairly hard?
I would say this is just good mechanical sympathy that should be adhered to at the start of every drive new / old / car / bike...

Just go with the flow. I slept very well the night before.

All I did was check the bodywork, wheels, front splitter and interior. Also check you have all your options you selected.
Great chilled out attitude K!

Is yours run in yet?
Nope, D. Just 375 on the clock. Gone up to 6000RPM in sport pdk once, all other times 5000RPM max. Awesome car and a great DD.

Got your pick up date yet.?. And did you opt the buckets ?, can't remember.
Collecting tomorrow, now that the hurricane has departed...hehe

No buckets, comfort spec with leather, leather wheel and carbon.......

By coincidence on Friday saw a white flash going the other way and subconsciously thought it was a GT3...only seen one other 991 on the road...Agate grey in Derby. Turned round and chased it down, parked up and it was a GT3 almost identical spec to mine....spent an hourish chatting to the owner, Stuart, nice guy lives only 5 mins away! The attention the car received in the carpark was too much!

Lucky lucky man! Please post tomorrow and tell us how it went. Being new to this GT3 thing would it be inappropriate to suggest a bit of a do in 2015 ? Where when and how I have no clue though I think that I could propose a good venue from which to start.

The Goose, if you are reading this I must assume that you are in the Tewksbury area if so can you recommend a Detailor also anyone local that can apply the film.
Thanks in advance.
I can recommend Justin at Exclusivecarcare.co.uk for detailing who has just done a great job on my 997 GT3.

Try James Walker at Ti22 vehicles, he does work for Porsche Bristol, and am sure would travel up to Tewkesbury.

Don't worry about the geo by the way, its almost certainly going to be correct from the factory.

Do check tyre pressures regularly with a good quality gauge though, if only to ensure the car's TPM sensors are correct.

My best advice!!!! Fer fecks sake don't take it out in the rain......
Apart from having to wash it again you may well have a big repair bill those wheels are huge and a massive chance of aqua planing may ensue
Enjoy that damn fine car when it's nice ;0)

Here's a list of things to look out for as I'd been collating a list of issues prior collecting mine:

1. Engine oil gauge can be misreading, keep an eye on it. Never add more than 200ml at any given time. If you overfill the car with oil, park it for a few minute with the handbreak on
2. Sports exhuast button getting stuck open or not opening at all, check the different sound notes when idle to see if it works. Can be a was missing vacuum hose
3. Steam from front raidiators when it rains. Nothing to worry about just the water evaporating
4. You may say small clear plastic spacers sticking out from under the rear lights cluster - OPC will fix this if it happens not nothing major
5. Someone had four occasions when the car has gone into 'limp' mode at over 8k revs but he's done 12k and in for a service
6. When broken in, do a launch control in PDK sport mode it will activate some new settings apparently - haven't go there yet
7. Someone did a launch control in PDK sport mode & had a couple of warnings came up... Sign with cogs saying PDK to hot & then pdk sport was not available to switch on?

Hope this is useful - not all may be accurate. You'll be too busy enjoying the amazing car!!

Are they really that bad?? I have watched the video clip of Chris Harris sliding a GT3 around Anglesey whilst kicking the arse of a V12VS Vantage. I did not hear him declare any tyre issues. wink To be honest I do not wish to go to the expense of wider wheels and tyres (£5000). Maybe I should just opt for a tyre only change, any suggestions?

The Michelin Alpinis are meant to be good, but I think they are 295s rather than 305s - not sure how that works on the GT3 rims.

Failing that Michelin Supersports would be a better all rounder than the Cup 2s.

Have at last got a date. Car leaves the factory on the 13th November. Emma at my OPC reckons that we should be on the road by the 30th.

Please could I have as much help and advice on what I should check and ask to be checked prior to delivery? I have never owned a Porsche before being very much an Aston Man. Believe me I am very excited!!

First up Apolo mentioned that steering Geo needs to be spot on.

Any help and advice will be very much appreciated. My OPC is a newly opened dealership I must assume that they are totally conversant with all things GT3 though they have never supplied one.

Awesome news Rob! Very pleased for you thumbup

As for what to check, I would echo a lot of what has already been said...

Make sure you have ALL the options you ordered, check the car thouroughly and make sure everything works
Make sure the car is blemish and dent free on every panel
Double check on the extended warranty
If you want to put film on, go for the Paintshield option and get the car detailed before you apply it
Maybe look into getting winter tyres put on as I know you will want to drive it over the winter
Ask the OPC what the official running-in process for the engine is (and then post back what they say here)

Also...

Check you have tax on the car before you drive away from the dealer (no tax disc now remember)
Make sure it fits in your garage and change the Aston Martin poster in there to a Porsche one biggrin

Lastly....

Let me know when you and Andy go out for a drive in Wales thumbup

Alpins were not available for the standard fit wheels...so hence the different wheel/tyre....

Supersports not available in N rated fitment for the GT3 standard wheels....

(there's a marketing strategy in there somewhere...)

Hi Kul,

Without doubt I am getting a bit excited now even though we probably have at least 5 weeks to go. Really want to get this GT3 thing right first time. The nightmare of going back and forth getting things sorted is not one I wish to repeat. I intend contacting my OPC to sort out the Silverstone driving tuition thing. I want Molly to do it as well as she can without doubt get a move on when required. My experience of cars with the engine sitting in the boot is quite limited.

Please could I have more info regarding winter tyres that do not infringe on Porsche's warranty. Knowing me I shall just press on regardless. rolleyes

Before I tackle my OPC with regard to the extended warranty am I correct in saying that Porsche are offering a 4th year warranty on all new GT3's being delivered F.O.C. As an alternative the third year invoiced one is to be free of charge?? I do not wish to get it wrong and look a knob.

Kul, I will be in touch as regards dalliances into Wales with Andy though we have also been discussing Scotland. Yee Hah !!! smokinbeerbounce

Winter wheels are narrower, not wider. I have been running the Michelin Cup 2 on a 997.2 Clubsport all year (with RS width fronts, so the same size contact area as the 991 at 245-305) - they are fine in all normal conditions (wet and dry, hot and cool), however I haven't tried them in very cold (low single figure or negative) conditions. Nor will I as I have winters for that now, but it should be noted that the older versions of the Cup were pretty awful in freezing conditions (I even drove those on snow once : I wouldn't recommend it). So long as it isn't freezing though, the Cup 2 is day and night better in the wet than its predecessors and not much for a competent driver to worry about as it doesn't become a particular concern below speeds suitable only for the track.

There is none of the terror that is driving the E40 in torrential Belgian rain on the Cup/Cup+.

It looks as though Alpinis are available in 305/30/20R 103W...(but not N rated)

But you don't need N rated under the factory warranty...
