My brother wants an MX5 MK3... he has up to £8k to spend and would like the following specification...

gunmetal grey metallic, of copper red metallic
Leather seats
Heated seats
1.8
folding hard top

Will he ever find one? I have looked and said he may need to move on some of the things, or go for the 2.0...

If he were to compromise and get a 2.0 sport (which brings with it the 6-speed box and all 2.0's have LSD) - it should be an easy spec as the sport comes with heated leather...

In a 1.8 I think he might have a challenge, unless one of the limited editions came with leather in a 1.8...

Just posted up some links, but removed it as I then saw the £8k limit. I don't think he's going to find that spec for 8 grand as they are mainly on newer cars as standard. If he doesn't want to budge on the leather/seats/engine etc then he's going to have to wait a few years until the prices come down, I reckon.

Or he could just buy a 1.8 with cloth seats then buy some leather seats off eBay and fit them.

Thanks,

only one of those meets his specification... I had missed that one though, so they do exist. That one is a bit far though... but he might just be prepared to make the trip if it sounds good on the phone.

Other than price or insurance group, why would anyone choose the 1.8 over the 2L? There's (officially) 25% more power in the 2L, and the car's got less than naff to start with.
on my second Mk3 - the first one was great for 2 years, then I wanted different options/features, so traded it up.

Why would he want a 1.8. I bought a copper red 2l sport coupe ticks all his boxes bar the wee engine. Had it 10 weeks, 57 plate £6995. Think I got a good deal ind you😀

Well... He found one. 2007 in metallic red, coupe, 1.8 with heated leather seats, 30k miles, the good news is that it was 10 mile away!

I will post a few pictures after he picks it up next week.

His old one (1991) is now for sale in the classifieds. He always does this... I spend months bringing a car up to condition for him, he spends a fortune, and then sells it! If anyone is looking for a tidy MK1... It's a great car!

70 today, happy birthday to him. Don't think you mentioned his age before, but it might explain why the 1.8 was suitable. I would imagine at his age performance was not his number 1 priority. Fair play to him.

yea, performance is no longer a priority... That's why he sold his Hayabusa and bought a Harleylaugh

I am pleased for him, he has been hankering for a change from the MK1 for a while... fingers crossed, that may have sold as well!

someone is going to get a bargain after all the work its had on it
