Ford F-150 SEMA specials - truck yeah!

Vaughn Gittin Jr and Deegan 38 SEMA custom Ford F-150s - file under 'guilty pleasures'

Basically the good ol' American pick-up remains the last bastion of unashamedly macho posturing, as proven by the beyond parody Bass Pro Toyota Tundra XLS No Pinkos Shock & Awe Freedom Fries NRA Smith & Wesson Special Edition we wrote about just recently. If hearty outdoor pursuits like huntin', shootin' and fishin' are just too namby pamby though Ford has announced two customised F-150s for SEMA that really ramp up the testosterone levels.

Deegan 38 goes for full off-road build
Deegan 38 goes for full off-road build
"I love trucks, and to build one that has daily on- and off-road capabilities, as well as drifting and jumping capabilities is something I have always wanted to do," says pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr (yes, he's a real person) of his personally specced F-150. "I am really pumped to get crazy in this F-150 at SEMA this year." And that's genuinely a direct quote from the Ford press release.

Gittin Jr's truck has Kibbetech suspension seemingly able to drop the car 12 inches to alternate between off-road hoonery and a more slammed look for the street. Which according to a quick Google search on Kibbetech would appear to mean doing donuts in intersections to the whooping admiration of onlookers. Inside Recaros for five mean you can enjoy such antics with four of your friends too. Whisper it, it looks rather cool.

Live the American dream here at home!
Live the American dream here at home!
Freestyle Motocross star 'The General' Brian Deegan has gone for a more off-road biased build for his Deegan 38 F-150, his truck riding high on Fox Racing Shox and packing a full and expansive list of tuning partners. "This F-150 should inspire the vast off-road, extreme-lifestyle-loving fan base to push the possibilities of the kick-ass new 2015 F-150 and the awesome 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine," says Deegan in the same press release.

Suitably inspired? There are currently half a dozen 6.2-litre, 411hp F-150 Raptors in the PH Classifieds, priced from £35K up to just shy of £50K. Not cheap then. But a hell of a lot of truck for your money, this Whipple supercharged example complete with 'Whipplesaurus' sun visor, claimed 200hp upgrade and stars'n'stripes Ford logo on the grille probably the most appropriate. Go large or go home, as Gittin Jr and Deegan would no doubt advise.

For the real truck experience Florida is the place to be. These 150s are the real baby size with my personal favourite being the Floridian with the Ford F350 with mountings for TWO Harleys on the flatbed and a speedboat on the back with 3 x 250HP Mercury V6s. F**k you Global warming!

Having no kids( no need for rear seats) and an office job (no need to carry anything), i keep thinking a crew cab pickup is the sensible next car.

I've been looking at that whipplethingy on the classifieds for far too long. Just need to sell the house and move in to a tent and I should be able to afford it.

When asked why I want it so much, the answer is very simple. "It's a truck with a dinosaur on it, I've wanted this since I was 7"

Best wait for the new one with the aluminium body (based on Jaguar`s technology snaffled by Ford when they ownedJag). The Ford pick ups get at least as much engineering and development attention as the Mustang - if not more - not least because they are the biggest sellers in the Ford range. I like their attention to practical details.

Oooh. I lurve my F350 Powerstroke with around 500 bhp and 900ft/lbs. It can drift well, even though it's dually. That's twin rear wheels to us. Seat 5/6 in comfort and has the truck camper on the back and still outdrags a lot of cars despite the 5+ tonne all up weight.

Going to sell it soon along with a number of other toys ready for moving.....

A guy locally owns an 5.4 F150, around the town and village streets of Wiltshire it looks utterly comical, nice sound though!

Love the raptor. Drive the 6.2V8 every day in the winter with a mild hennesey kit. was supposed to buy a sensible f150 for towing my race cars. that plan went a bit wrong as clearly not the best hauler out there. Amazing fun tho. It makes a jeep look tiny.. it also tested my faith in the 2 post lift id put up.. didnt have the guts to get under the car tho.

If you want to go and have fun truck spotting go to iceland. You would think they are taking the piss until you see the roads...

Main roads: If you are on a dual carriageway you are about to arrive at the airport.

Route 1: paved (mostly) check the weather as storms may strip the paint from your car smash the windows and leave you cowering in the footwell. Do not pass 2 petrol stations in a row.

Other major roads: often turn from pavement to gravel. do not pass petrol stations.

F roads: I'm pretty sure this is "where did the F* road go?". you get sticks which mark the edges. The sticker in our rental car said "tie self to car before entering rivers to ascertain depth. No insurance covers F roads"

As a note climate change does not care if you give a F**k or not.

Thinking it might be time to get another proper truck
At long last dodge seems to be getting their act together
But after owning a f250 superduty it would be hard to change brands, such a good all rounder, have a hilux good little motor but isn't a substitute for a full size merican!!

3.5 L is considered tiny in the US, especially for a truck. Remember, the F-150 can also be had with a 6.2 L V8. Compared to that, yes, 3.5 L is "eco".

Also recall that both Ford and Dodge built petrol-V10 pickups until relatively recently. The Hemi V8 in the Ram currently displaces 6.4 L. That said, all those are puny compared to the 8.2 L (500 cu.-in.) V8 in my dad's old Cadillac Eldorado (sadly long-gone).
