Loft conversion

We're looking at potentially converting our loft. We've got a 2up2down, and the loft is only above the master bed (14x12.8ft). You'll see a layout of what we've got, and the red line is showing where I would put a wall with a staircase, there really is no where else to put it.



The loft area is the same as the bedroom, but the highest part is about 1.9m, the roof then goes down to abour 50cm from the floor (27degree pitch?)

After some help really? I understand under 2m isn't high enough, is it a massive job to lower the floor of our bedroom? worth it for a loft room?

Its a ginormous job lowering the floor.

Loft conversions are the most complex work ever contemplated at residential properties and not every roof void is suitable. I would check with neighbours and see who has carried this out already and ask to have a look. Make sure it's not a DIY bodge though.

If no one with a house the same as yours has done one, you probably have your answer.

Yes 1.9 is not enough, 2.3m was always my limit as you really struggle to get the required 2.0 headroom at the top of the stairs with less than that, remember you will loose around 250mm due to the new floor and ceilings. I remember one that was right on the limit and I thought I may have to position a Velux window at the top of the stairs to give the required 2m headroom but it just scrapped through.Lowering the ceilings is not something that can really be done if the house is lived in.
