Not much more to add really, just got my fingers crossed. Avoidance maneuver at the end of the test is worrying me, but as long as I don't do anything daft the rest should be ok.

Just want to pass 1 and 2 and get my sweaty mits on a nice bike...

Good luck. Just remember what you were taught and it will be fine. I was worried about the U turn, I knew if I got that right the rest would be ok. A bloke I work with failed his Mod 1 recently for being too slow on the avoidance swerve though, I can't remember how many retries you get if you aren't fast enough, but he kept coming through too slowly and failed in the end. I was taught to learn the sound of the speed so I could hear when I was going fast enough and not have to look down at the speedo, which seemed to work for me, as I passed my mod 1 with no minors.

Passed my mod 1 with no minors last week too, I don't remember much of it though laugh The slalom/figure of 8 was my worst bit, as soon as that was done with I knew I was home and dry.

My DAS instructor taught me a great way to get the required speed, on an ER6N - 3rd gear round the bend at 15-20mph, at the last blue cone - nail the throttle open. Then roll off it at the green cones just before the speed trap. Doing this and never looking at the speedo apart from going into the turn I got 55, 53 and 55 kph on all 3 runs. Oh and keep your hands off the levers on the emergency stop until he raises his hand.

Cheers, my instructor has said you can get up to 4 minors and each time you don't hit the right speed through the trap that's a minor. I got a go on the DSA course I'm taking the test at last week, by the end I was passing just fine. Getting to speed on the emergency stop was fine, just got to remember not to roll off the throttle too early on the avoidance test, relax and not bottle it essentially.

Yeah, my instructor has hammered shoulder checks into me incessantly. If I fail to shoulder check tomorrow I think he'll shank me... wink

Yep, every single time you move away, left shoulder, right shoulder. Even when you first start up the bike to go through the gates. And don't drop it parking up at the end!!

Shoulder checks, don't forget to lift the stand pulling off for the slalom! don't touch the front brake on the swerve or really use it at all. Use the first controlled stop to practice for the 50kph, asking the examiner for what speed you passed through the trap. Take your time before each manoeuvre to breathe and think about the next part!

Good luck!

GOOD ONE FOR THE AVOIDENCE IS (sorry caps off) if you swerve to the right then when you come through the first cone keep tight to the left hand cone then angle towards the 2nd cone on the right, effectively straightening it out more, this means you don't have to swerve as much. it makes it easier, your kind of straightening the bend out if this makes sense.

My only minor was i released my front brake on my emergency stop to early, i had it in my head to do a controlled stop on the rear brake.

As everyone says from the moment you get on the bike until you park it back up don't forget left shoulder, straight ahead, right shoulder then move off.

Relax and Enjoy, won't be long till you have your full licence, i passed just over two weeks ago and now I've got my Daytona 675 and love it

If it helps, I went through the speed trap at 68km/h and still made the emergency stop so don't worry about it (dialled it back to 58 for the swerve...).

And don't stop doing them when you've passed your test. They're not called "life savers" for nothing

Good luck today.
My advise is to listen to the instructions. I didn't and on the swerve didn't stop between the cones.

As every one says life savers every manouvre, and on the 'U' turn one before you pull away and one before you do the 'U' turn!!

I also was well over the speed required for the swerve test, (My instructor was in the test centre waiting room watching throught the window and said it looked like I was going that fast I was going to join them in the waiting room!) just roll of the throttle as you pass the speed trap and dont touch the front brake until you are lined up on the stop cones after the swerve!

You will pass no problems, even Mrs Powerstans passed her Mod 1 and 2 in the last month!

Now the real pain has begun with her as she has changed from the idea of a simple Fazer as her first bike to a Street Tripple (they look good in red apparently!!)

Good luck pal, I did mine in April ans was 31 MPh on the avoidance so got a minor for that (only minor of the test though). Not sure what bike you are using but my instructor told me to watch the tacho not the speedo, as in second gear at 5.5k rpm, that bike was sat nicely at 32Mph, this however was on A Suzuki Gladius 650.

As others have said every maneuver, do a life savers, and from the moment you get on the bike to the moment you park back up, you are under test conditions.

All the best.

Nailed it, passed with no minors at all. Remembered everything I had been taught (which I always feel is a miracle in itself) and even started to enjoy it once I'd done the slalom and figure of 8.

I was even chuffed with little things like both times through the speed trap were recorded at 53kmh (I have a big thing for consistency).

Mod 2 next Weds afternoon, my instructor feels I just need to concentrate on my observations, I'm rushing at times, and road positioning.

If I pass I too shall be spunking a wad of cash on a Street Triple. Was thinking about a Sprint ST but the Trip seems more fun.

Good to hear. The Street is probably a better idea than the Sprint if fun is your goal.

Interesting that a lot of people seem worried about the figure 8 - once you get to the figure 8 you're home free after the slalom, as the figure 8 can be done as wide a you like, you can literally use the entire test ground to the do the turns, as long as you pass through the correct gap in the cones, the correct number of times. It's not like the mod 1 where you have to do a tight figure 8, for the mod 1 test there is no limit or how tight or wide the turn must be.

Exactly what my instructor told me, and spot on. I didn't find the slalom too bad and once you get to go out wide for the figure of 8 it is really not that difficult (hindsight is a lovely thing)

On my figure of 8 there was a worm right in the middle of the cones. Lucky for me (but unlucky for the worm) I concentrated on it to do a perfect 8.

Well done!
