£30k?!
Indeed, bonkers. It may be low mileage, but it's also low spec.

Standard seats, no nav = frown

Does a 15 year old sat nav system actually add any value, then...?

Obsolete. Same as the car phones and analogue TV tuners...

In my opinion definitely yes. I think the e39 BMW nav was very good for it's time. It works as well as (and I found easier to use than) a more recent system in my FIL's Q7. I would not buy an e39 without nav.

Still works well now, and the hands free works just fine with my iPhone.

ETA: And in reply to the comment above, you can get a digital tuner for it if you're so fussed.

That particular m5 is a shed and has been for sale for ages - overpriced but agreed, nice spec.

M5 prices have been all over the place for the last 6 months due to people making a clear distinction between pre facelift and the more desirable facelift models.

Then there is the condition of a lot of these m5's that have not really been looked after in the way they should have been.

I own an m5 and spend money on it like I did on my CSL or my z3m - if it needs doing then BMW or a reputable independant will do the work.

These are the kind of cars that will sell for £10k plus due to condition, history and mileage won't be as important unless its spaceship or ridiculously low miles.

Which one are you referring to?

I have to say, I find the choice of cars a bit uninspired .
Some semi recent Porsche, Ferrari and M Beemer , and a Corrado of all things ?
Each his own, just leaves me cold .

And the unrelated comments added by the OP to the individual car choices for this garage, I could well do without .
I understand one's urge to share his philosophy of life on the internet, no matter how shallow, but I'd rather not read about it in the original article .

Great choices, one of my favourite, it's probably not exactly the garage I would go for but I have to admit all great cars. Whilst the Corrado is a little odd-ball in comparison to the others I'd forgotten how well they've aged to be honest. For a car that's 25 years old they look good!

It doesn't seem that long ago that you could find a nice 355 for around £30k.
When F355s were £30-40k there were quite a few more on the market.

They are now in the £45-65k price range. SIGH.

I like all of these choices, albeit I've never been big on Veedubs, but appreciate their niche market. 355 and Carerra 2 always worth a punt if you have the cash, lovely cars and the Porkers sound awesome with the right exhaust mods. The M5 is very nice too. I would be tempted with an E60 M5, although I still think the E39 is one of the nicest, well balanced and most engaging saloons I have owned (530d).. It just felt better than the E60 to me.

When the classic car market crashes (and it will), I'll revisit the £35k F355 :-).

Not sure on the E60 M5, just a bit too big, ugly and expensive/troublesome for me. E39 is a fine looking thing.

As for a different car to throw in, the 997.1 Turbo is depreciating nicely.

I'm not persuaded that you HAD to say it.

Pop your choices up them. £100k - go!

Another IMO perfect M5 on PH now... I really should stop looking.

A lot of miles for the money though.

Stunning M5!

Agreed, 134k is a lot of miles. Must have refurbished wheels, parts of the seats reupholstered (cream seats and no bolster wear). Probably a replaced vanos and lots of other bits to look so good.

Edit - just read the long advert, lots of work!
