Guys, I have been attracted to the current Exige S, in particular the roadster version, for some time now. (actually I like the rear and the 'cockpit' a lot; the front view a bit less). Have only had a short test drive in the coupe last year, so not much to form an opinion by. Last Saturday was very sunny in Switzerland and I drove beautiful small country roads in the lower parts of the Alps - and I thought this would be twice as pleasurable again in a roadster....if only I had one!

My main car (other than the family car) is a 997.1 GT3 RS which will stay. Practicality is pretty much not relevant, as I use public transport on a daily basis and have the family car for practical purposes. Nor are track days and lap times, as I would use the roadster predominantly on Swiss and German country roads.

My question hence is, has anyone on here got one? What is your ownership experience? Is it something you'd say could make a good open top addition to the garage? How does the driving compare after a while to a sportier 911?

Aren't Exiges fixed head with the Elise being the drop head?

nope you can buy a roadster with no roof or wing.

Keep it Porsche though and buy a Spyder imo.

We're talking about the new Exige, which is a much bigger car.

Personally i think they look fantastic on the road. Can't comment on the drive; I've only driven the race car version which is obviously a bit of a different beast.

That's it - it looks great, and it feels fun on the inside. I sort of drove the roadster on Monday, but as it did not have number plates my test drive was confined to a residential underground car park...

I am very curious to hear from anyone who has experienced on here. I looked around on the Lotus forums, but the views there - while generally very positive - compare it all within the Lotus world ("it's heavier than the old Exige", "the Exige always had a hardtop"....etc) which doesn't really matter to me as I never had a Lotus and see the new(ish) Exige as something that stands for itself, so I only care about how it does in and by itself.

Didnt EVO give it 5 stars? At about £62k (i suspect decent discounts on top of that) it is good value for a car that's inbetween a Carrera S and a GT3. And if you want a manual, there are precious few choices about these days.

A friend of mine, ph'er CTE has one. He really likes it and a few weeks back we did a trip to the Pyrenees and I couldn't keep up on the tight mountain roads, it's seriously quick!

If you drop CTE a pm I'm sure he'd give you some feedback.

Edited to add photo "on tour"

Thanks you, Big E 118 and Trev 450 - will do.

Looking at the picture of the mountain tour above, I'd say the Exige looks very good. IMO that is the first Lotus that does not look out of place in that entourage.
