"The drive" has been part of the test drive of every car I've bought since moving here 12 years ago and it was no different with the V8V. Gerald from Stratstone Derby was completely cool about it (at least he gave that impression externally!) and the V8 passed with flying colours. I was driving so only he knew how close it was but then there was a potential sale at the end of it! That was their demonstrator which was a MY2013 as far as I recall so had the new style splitter but my understanding is that the ride height is lower on a V8VS and lower still on a V12V (happy to be corrected on this). Stratstone Derby haven't had a V12V for ages hence I've not got round to "The Drive" test yet on what is currently my ultimate car.

Couldn't agree more, but as V8's go this is the best I have driven. And the smiles per mile compares well against the V12 Astons I have driven.

Yes the V12s, loved the noise and the handling, didn't much like the jerky gear changes on occasion , still a great car though. What is it with Astons and less than great gearboxes, hopefully the new 8- speed autos will correct this

Both actually and yes it was a bit comical in D, not great going up the box on the paddles , very sharp on the down shifts, I did find I could improve the up shifts by easing off the accelerator a bit.

One factor to consider is the robust nature of the V8 in comparison to the V12. Hopefully the ticking noise leading to engine failure is limited to the very early cars but it would certainly concern me. Having said that the V12 with the cats off does sound amazing.

Interested to hear of the differences.

I drove a V12V a couple of years ago and loved it, but did find the ride a little crashy on our roads. Wish they'd fitted a softer setup with switchable dampers to firm it up if you wish. I think this was done recently on the V12VS

I drove the V12S and the suspension was firm but not uncomfortable, I didn't notice if the suspension could be adjusted, I would like to drive the original Vantage V12 to see what it is like, I do like the old style manual gear shift.
