Just embarking on a mini re-trim in alcantra for the old dog which includes rear shelf, centre console inserts and door inserts.

All so far so good in terms of removal, but struggling to detach the passenger-side bolster from the centre console as I assume it's riveted on. Now, I haven't removed the console as such; just lifted it to get at the drivers side bolts.

Can the passenger side be safely prised away (i.e. by breaking the hidden rivets) without removing the whole console?

Any ideas?

Thanks Nick

God you're a boring sod Nick :-)

Got spares in the workshop youth, I'm not there This Saturday, but Dave there so if you need to look at the spare sections we have to see how to do it drop over, we have centre console, rear section, door sections for your car.

Don't prise the bolster away from the console - if you do you will rip out the bolts that are epoxied into the back of it that hold it to the console. You need to take the console out or lift it enough to get behind it to undo the wing nuts from underneath.

Hi Nick,

I replaced my center conole inserts recently and i still have the old ones. I have taken a picture of the backsides for you so you can see where and what the fixings are.

I found that if i removed the helmet holder i could raise the center console enough to get a drill under there to drill out the rivet heads, and same again to rivet the new ones back on, i don't think you will be able to prise the inserts of without damaging the center console due to the size of the rivet heads.

The picture shows the two edges that are closest together are the lower edges when fitted, and the bottom of the picture would be the back of the car and the top the front, left is passenger and right is driver.

Hope this helps.

Not often I get to work on my own car ;-) Might even get the sewing machine out tomorrow...

Thank's everyone for the replies. All the offending bits are off and material has arrived. Let battle commence.

Cheers

Nick
