I used to draw a lot of cars and went as far as considering Coventry uni for the transport design course.

Here's one from a few years back.

I used to do this too, I don't think anything survived though.

Did you design the F-Type?

Cannot upload a photo at work but checking Google images I can see some similarities.

As a kid I drew a LOT of cars.

I actually invented my own car marques and came up with whole model histories for them, even going so far as to draw the different models available (e.g. humdrum 1.1 litre base spec supermini vs 1.6 litre GTi).

I recall most of my designs being thinly-veiled knock-offs of stuff I'd read about in Auto Express and Top Gear and seen while out and about - so my 80s supermini looked a lot like a Renault 5 and my 90s family saloon had more than a hint of Mondeo (and a touch of Saab).

Around 1984/85 I used to think it would be nice if BMW did a fastback 5-door based on the E30 3-series, so my (appalling) sketches were of a BMW 428i.

It was a similar concept to today's 4-series Gran Coupe with less of a notch back.

My school books were full of this design as it was refined...biggrin

Cool video, Chip Foose does some fantastic free hand drawing to but takes things to another level when he cracks out the air brush and starts applying colour/reflections plus obscene amounts of detail so that the the sketch almost appears like a photo.

Light design is a nice touch.

Anyway, if you want spoilers, wings, skirts, vents, more spoilers, lamps, deep windows and more spoilers, then here it is. Its probably for the best that the 13 year old that drew this didn't go into automotive styling. I'm still expecting a call from the producers of Chop Shop though...

OP: Not sure if you were ahead of your time, but you have seemingly drawn a Toyota Soarer:

hehe No, I'm in IT, not car design. I think my main influence when I drew the car was probably the Cerbera.

The 5 minute sketch was interesting, one of my favourite designs from Jaguar was the XK180, it was a shame that never saw production.

Join the club! Only first year so nothing is particularly 'automotive' at the moment but I still tend to find myself doodling when lectures start to drag.

I used to do this, but I'd carry on with the whole brochure. Come up with trim levels, engine specs, prices etc. I'd use names of dead car companies and 're-invent' the branding etc.

That's not bad for 6! If I had to guess, I'd say that was done by at least an 8 year old.

I remember most of my maths book creations seemed to end up looking like a Toyota GT-One.... with machine guns.

I must admit that is a spooky similarity!

ETA: SlipStream, you didn't happen to get a set of French Curves around the time you drew that, did you?

biggrin

Nice hehe . Most of my car designs would of been on a maths book.
Snap! It was a little bit awkward when I had to get a new maths book as the maths (front) and doodles (back) met within a few pages of the middle smile

When I was around 8 or 9 Vauxhall had a competition for young car designers, I actually found a design I did a few months ago. This would have been mid 1960's anyone else remember this?
