Toyota celica p1349 weird issue

Hi, ive had the ECL on a few times with p1349. The problem is,there isnt anything wrong with the car at least not that i can feel. Its drives great, no weird noises. What could possibly be the issue?
Ive gone 800 miles without it being on and sometimes only 200-300, but it usually goes away after 50 or so miles if i dont reset it with the reader. Ive noticed almost always it comes on when the car is in high gear and lowish rpm. The most recent one was when going uphill at 55 mph atsixth gear. The car wasnt labouring but it wasnt easily accelerating. The vvti controller has been replaced at 50k miles (at 100k now) after having the light on and off. I read the diagnostics and they couldnt tell whats wrong and just replaced the whole thing. Now, i dont have 600 pounds to throw in the hope it keeps the light off when there arent any apparent problem
Just want to mention that the car has been serviced every 10k miles and the oil looks very clean and recently changed so it unlikely that the filter may be blocked.
