Even one with a slightly worn cam will go well.

You won't be able to tell by excessive noise as the hydraulic lifters take up slack until the cam is quite worn.

If its done 50' miles without cam change, expect to do it sometime in the near future smile
Some lasts alot longer, but its very depending on oil changes and use. If the car has been standing still for long periods and then fired up without some relubing, the cam is in trouble!

I think most these engines will require a change anywhere around the 70,000 mile mark. I had alot of engine shunting before I had mine changed, then after the cam change and other top engine engine replacement parts as smooth as silk.

Was speaking to Dom at Power about this on Thursday and he said cams on earlier cars were much more long lasting and many can be fine at well over 100k miles if they have been looked after decently. He reckons the cam on my 96 HC is fine at 87k miles and said "I'm not going to sell you a cam if it doesn't need it" which is good to hear - mind he did then suggest Iconsider their mbe unit which would cost me more than a cam!!
