Would be ace if it goes ahead, however I doubt the road surface would stand up to much more abuse. I'm also sure they have been trying to re-lay the road for years & years but cant afford to shut it down to do so without causing gridlock in the rest of the city.

I think it'd be comparatively less dangerous to freeclimb up the outside of the library, TBH.

The traffic wasn't too bad when they closed it this year, as they only closed one carriagway, so everyone could still get where they needed to go.

I've already started this seeing as the Cov Ring Road is the place where I've received my one and only SP30 biggrin

This would be fun to walk, though I think the best place to watch would be on top of the 'elephant', you can see the roundabout "corner" of the ring road so should be plenty of action smile

The Coventry ring road is the closest thing we have to the elevated highways in Tokyo, it's got quite a bit in common with the infamous C1 inner loop. I think it would be epic to see a race around it!!

Went to 2 of the Superprix when I was a kid.

I think a trip back up to the Midlands will be in order if this goes ahead. Great stuff.

This could be quite good and actually get people and tourists into the centre. Hopefully they'll have sorted the new entrance to the station before then too.

What's being proposed at the moment is time trials not races like the Birmingham Super Prix - problem with the ring road being elevated is if there was contact, there would be a good chance the cars might flip over the barriers which aren't high enough (At the moment anyway hehe )

I think what is proposed is a sprint which is slightly different to a race. However it opens it up to all of us to have a go ourselves. All you need is an MSA competiton license, approved helmet and race overalls.

Bringing motorsport back to what used to be the heart of the motor industry! I'd love to see it happen, although I'll be out of the country by the time it starts.

One man on the BBC summed it up quite well though: "We all race on it everyday anyway, so why not!"

Those American style on and off ramps are horrible though, I'm so surprised there aren't more accidents!

Fantastic. Always thought it might be useful as a race track. (Never raced on it, obviously.)

I just don't understand the point of this. There's a fully-developed race facility less than an hour from Coventry in the form of Silverstone. You've also got the little sprint track at Curborough, MIRA on an old airfield at Nuneaton and ProDrive also use an old airfield at Honiley as their test track, not to mention the so-called "Shakespeare County Raceway" on the former RAF Long Marston. There's also the old V-bomber base at Gaydon, but since that's JLR and Aston Martin HQ, might not be quite so suitable for racing on. Street circuits and ring roads tend to be dull as ditchwater, in any case, and I can vouch for the fact that the Coventry one is one of the dullest (and most dangerous) of the lot. Thankfully, I haven't had cause to use it in a long time.

Coventry as a city has much going for it, but is also a prime example of how NOT to reconstruct a city post-WW2 - the Germans' reconstructions of their bombed medieval cities are mostly far better done. The modern cathedral in Coventry (designed by Basil Spence, who to my knowledge never did another church job) is hideous, though it has a decent organ and has a certain significance for me, as it's where I took my then wife-to-be to hear the Britten War Requiem.

The ring road is only a small part of Motofest, this year they had an oval racing demonstration, convoys, live music, cinema screenings and all sorts of static displays. It took over the city centre and brought car culture to the city and a lot of people who wouldn't go to a racetrack for a day out!

you're missing the point entirely.
