Back in the 60s, we used to pub crawl around Derbyshire. Six or seven pints, them drove home. Up to five times a week.

Those who are leaving it an hour before driving are actually doing the worst thing because it takes an hour for the alcohol to be fully absorbed into the blood.
It actually takes several hours for all the alcohol to be absorbed into the blood, but the majority is absorbed sooner, a peak level is reach after which point more alcohol is being metabolised and excreted than is being absorbed from the gut
Unless you have consumed a large amount of alcohol or there is already alcohol in the body, the blood alcohol content peaks at around 30 minutes to 1 hour after the drink was consumed, depending on how much food has been consumed and how quickly the drink was drunk. If the peak comes at 1 hour or later, it will be significantly lower than it would have been had the peak been at 30 minutes or less.

The worst thing to do is to drive around 20 minutes after having a quick drink on an empty stomach.

I have to walk to the pub this morning to get my car from the village pub car park. From there to home its about 1 mile. I was only having two and would happily drive home on that. As it was there was quite a crowd yesterday evening, the wife and kids came down, I had four and hence car stayed! Probably syms up my drink and drive habits.

1 pint only for me, then onto soft drinks and crisps. Pork scratchings are bought with the pint.

Pint if I'm driving, maybe two if there'll be a good length of time from start to end of drink plus food.

None at all if riding the bike.

Back in my teens I used to do 2.5 pints and drive and being that age in a loud Fiesta got pulled loads and never had a problem with the breathalyser.

If I'm having a meal I'll have one pint at most but more often just a half pint. If I'm not eating then I won't have anything to drink.
Same here.

I can usually tell after the first 1/4 pint how much I can drink.
Sometimes I feel pretty riddled half way through a pint so 1 is my limit, but other times you can easily have two and not feel it at all.

You know when you have had too much, and that may be after a pint, but normally too late as you have the car with you.

I took a breathe test after one and a half bottles of Rioja, and passed, it was close but passed.
It was only because we had a 2 hour wait for a cab and I was saying I felt sober so annoying I couldn't just drive home, everyone laughed and said there was no way I was sober, so we grabbed a breathalyser from a mates car and I was under.
Took it again 10 mins later and was still under.
Wouldn't have driven though.

But other times I can have a small Perroni or something and feel more drunk.

The only other consideration here is, how accurate was the breathalyser?

Not a drop, I've had the unfortunate experience of having a friend killed due to a drink driver (notice I didnt say drunk), he was just over the limit and claimed they'd only had 2 pints. Didnt make a difference to my friend and her family. Everyone's body reacts differently, so I'm a big fan of the Zero Tolerance approach.

2 cans after work on a Friday.

2 pots (285 ml) at the pub, 3 if I'm there longer. I have been breathalised many times, and never been near the limit (0.05%).

Almost the same - I favour the zero limit and by that I mean almost zero because there are certain things which can give a small reading - perhaps allow for a reading of 5 instead of 35 at the roadside

If the new proposed Scottish law comes into the UK then half an average strength pint is likely to be the limit so it might as well be zero

there are so many alcohol free products around these days that I fail to see any issues with a zero limit

I don't drink alcohol any more (after suffering terrible headaches), so nothing. Even when I did drink I would avoid it if I knew I was going to need to drive.

Driven very drunk in the past, just drove sensibly. Don't understand these people who drive at silly speeds whilst sh@tfaced - just asking for trouble.

I would say I am a better driver when drunk than many sober drivers I see.

I rarely do it nowadays for the sole reason of losing my license, rather than from a safety point of view.

Also you may kill someone or hurt them as well would be a better reason?
