Yup. TOR stuff is huge. Have you heard of The Silk Road? Probably the best-known Deep Web site.

It's mostly media crap.

There are some underground websites out there, they are tiny, and there's a lot of crap that google won't list in a search because no one cares.

Sites like this make it out to be something which it is not with stuff like "According to The Guardian, you can only access 0.03% of the internet via search engines like Google and the rest is what makes up the deep web" and making out that it's all dark and murky stuff used by a hidden majority of criminal internet users. This is bullst, the majority of what fits into this category is perfectly innocent stuff, like facebook for example one of the biggest sites on the internet, 99% of the content on Facebook is restricted and shared with only selected people, if you don't have a facebook account, you can barely see anything on it, but we don't go calling this the deep web.

From what I've seen most it looks like a load of bullst made up by wannabe dealers and gangsters. I also struggle to believe it's completely anonymous.

Tor is quite useful for protecting your IP address from websites and search engines if you are looking for something dodgy. It is relatively secure / anonymous.

The "dark web" accessed via tor is a bit of a disappointment. There are hacking, drug sites and way too much child porn. Nothing I want to see.

You can also use TOR to access websites blocked by your ISP.

Note also the change in wording. The internet > the web. When you pay for something by card it goes over the 'net, but you'd hope it wasn't google-accessible.

This, basically.
