Spill the beans, APOLO - What have you heard/ been told?

I still haven't got back to the OPC to make sure I know where I am on the LOI list as I am stuck in the US but I am back to the UK tomorrow.
all I will say at this point is that I hear that they had to wind it back in a bit..

cannot work out why this has been for sale about 3 months though !!!

That car has every thing the hardcore GT4 owners want in the car !
It hasn't been for sale for three months.

I should know, it's mine ! Four weeks maybe ...

And I may yet keep it , and the GT4 smile

What? It was going to outperform a 991GT3? Surely not?

Chris, you must be mistaken. If Mr Demon says it's been on the market three months, it MUST have been on the market three months. After all, Mr Demon NEVER exaggerates. What he says is FACT, you know it. I know, the wider world knows it. I suggest you check your calendar, then re-check it. It should then be obvious to you that your mistaken in this matter. Is that understood ? ?

Well I know I'm right on this one smile

But I did wishfully once quote a time for Oulton that had been given to me by a pal on the pit wall --- that must have been wrong ! So I'll happily let him off. Particularly if he wants to buy it smile

I would have bet over 4 weeks, time must be going slow...
I have watched a few non CS car sell inc 911virgin one at £85k
So it just seems way more than 4 weeks to me.

But now he GT4 will be 3.8 ;-) it's going to be quite a car and bargain.
Nice looking car that GT3 though.

Sorry Chris looks like you've faux pa'd - the link references Dave's car and not your race car - Mr D may be getting unfair criticism in this instance....as the gt3 has been around for a few months

smile

Your car is on the same page though

So are there two Caymans for sale ?

They built two, one driven by Chris Dyer and the other by me.

Chris always intended to race his next year ???

And the one car shown is definitely mine --- where else did you see a race car with a passenger seat ?? smile

Tuition tuition tuition .....

I'm quite looking looking forward to seeing the motorsport version of this car. The running costs of Carrera cup are now very high and there is scope for another cheaper entry level one make series as well as a GT4 catagory car. This would be a great way of developing out the full potential of the Cayman chassis and proving its engine/running gear in the motorsport arena. The departure of the road going GT3 from it's motorsport roots may signal That the 911 May not be Porsches primary GT racing default model in years to come

You may be right, but its hard for me to understand the logic behind this.

Surely the 911 is the core of the brand? Its the mascot, an icon. It has an unbelievable history that is the envy of all other manufacturers. 51 years and its still winning!

Surely pensioning the car off would kill it?

No doubt Porsche will find a way of keeping one foot in the milk and the other in the yogurt.

They wouldn't necessarilywalk away from all of the high end RSR development. The GT3 could still homoligate bits for the RSR - the RS could get the M engine if required or a new racing unit The Cayman could fill the role of the cup car in one make series and GT4. It could work. The new 991 cup cars are very expensive to run and a long way apart from the road car. To bring the both in line would need w culture shift and a new direction of the GT3 and I can't see that happening. So if Porsche kept developing the RSR for high end GT there would be scope for the Cayman replacing the 911 as the one make series car.

Just a thought. There are certainly benefits to both the 911 - oops 991, and the Cayman

it's been 50 years of trying to bring the engine in mm by mm there is no room left in that platform in the 991.

918, and 913 to come and at last the GT4 , proper 2 seater sports cars to get excited about. :-)

This is what we speculated in the first few days of the thread. Before it disappeared up its own arse somewhat.

Maybe this is not the the right thread to discuss this, but I cant let this go unchallenged.

There is an assumption that mid engined is the best, but its just not that simple. The weight of the engine has to go somewhere and its how that weight is managed that matters.

Each configuration brings its own advantages, disadvantages and challenges.

There is still a place for the 911.
