Alfa GT door not locking

So yesterday morning my GT decided to display the "driver door open" sign. Even though the door was shut. The message flashed a couple of times thinking it was shut, then open again etc.

Thats not necessarily the problem as its still functional and just a warning message. My problem is that because the car thinks the door is open, it wont lock!!

Ive parked 4 times now and 3 times it had failed to lock, thinking the driver side door is open.

Ive not had the door cards off yet to check the micro-switch/position sensors, ive just given the window seals a couple of blasts of WD40 and wound them down to try and clean and dirt away. I did this last night and it locked.

Drove to work this morning and the message was still on the dash, it also failed to lock in the carpark.

Has anybody else had this problem and were able to fix it?

Are you able to manually lock it using the key in the door, at least to tide you over? Failing that, try the same routine using the passenger door lock.
