Anyone got one for sale? Finding it difficult locating a half decent one at a reasonable price...

I'm in London but happy to travel the country for one.

Cheers

There's a great deal of love for these on this forum, but they're often in the hands of owners who won't let go.

Why not cast your net a little wider and have a look at mobile.de. After all, they're all left hand drive.

Charles Ironside or Avantegarde will no doubt have one, or know of one for sale.

I've been dreaming about the Portuguese dealer's car for a few weeks. It looks to be in wonderful original condition. Original Becker radio, no silly wheels or square exhaust tips. At 166km it clearly wasn't a garage queen either, so must have been extremely well cared for. Perhaps a bit too good for something to use everyday though?

Given these cars were all LHD, the premium for a UK car is harder to justify. Bramley had a low miles UK car recently, but it was silly money. I agree with R129. Mobile.de is where I get my kicks.

Cheers gents - helpful.

The car in Portugal looks stunning - Bramley example is perfection but at £60k I have a feeling shes going to be sitting around for a while...

Difficult to find sub £10k examples out there, I'll keep searching. Mobile.de / Autoscout seems the way forward.

I think you'll struggle to find a decent one under £10,000 now but good luck with the search. The continent might prove more fruitful, you never know

Charles Ironside has had one "coming soon" for at least 2 months now. It sounds like a nice car from the description so it will be interesting to see how it's priced.

Cheers. I've got in touch with Ironside so I'll see if that brings up anything. Don't mind paying more if it means getting the right motor.

Ideally looking to get one in black as they look so good.

Saw a silver one today but it was so-so - project car I'd say, had a replacement boot (black on the inside) and bonnet (poor fittings and grill), surface rust coming up on one front wing and one rear wing, one key, no history or paperwork only a few receipts and MOT, couldn't get the oil cap open which shows you when it's been last changed, suspension at the rear gave a knock etc etc. Nice set of AMG alloys but cheapo tyres. Could be a nice motor with a couple grand thrown at it...hmmmm

The boot is black on the inside from the factory. Galinite Grey, actually.

And check the price of front wings on these cars if buying a project. I seem to recall they're £500 each.

There is an alternative, an E400/420E was offered in certain markets from about 90-91 onwards. Yes it won't have the kudos of the E500 but it's nearly as rare(never seen one in the UK) came in standard and sportline options and would be very anonymous so a great Q car. Currently a good choice in Germany at various budgets. Mercedes Benz had an occassional E500 forsale via the Museum but they seem to have stopped, the final production run had some quite lurid interior colours!

Cheers Bob - the 400E doesn't do it for me, it has to be the 500E! The 400E is exactly the 300E bodyshell with no mods at all, just the 4.2L V8 M119 shoehorned it.

The 500E has the Porsche engineering pedigree and the body has been widened and lengthened for the larger engine and transmission tunnel - and those wide front arches, looks so mean!

I hope you find one, I'll have just look at the brochure I got of fleabay! I wasn't aware of just how much modification went into the bodies.

There's a lovely "E60" W124 on carandclassic for around £25k. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C476991

Maybe next year I can afford to start looking for one. Dubdizzle is worth a look too (cars in UAE) and there are a couple of companies than offer import services from there.

Good 036 are hard to find.
And a bad one drains your wallet fixing it.

If you need some advice what to look out for let me know.
Did a full mechanical restoration on mine last winter,so know a thing or two about them..

Mine at PH SS Brooklands:
