It's unfortunate the one employee "who doesn't like loud noises" just happened to pick up the one car of the batch which was fitted out to make very loud noises. What are the chances?

Maybe he was testing it to see just how loud the loud noises he didn't like really were.

Ok looking at that sub it has been overexcuted and the coil has left the gap

basically on a speaker it has a voice coil that sits in a gap on the magnet - the cone moves when electicity is fed through that coil of wire it creates a magnetic field that moves the wire - see the pic below to see what i mean

Looking at the photo you showed something has caused the sub to excurt to such a degree that the coil has left the gap enturely and got wedged ontop of the magenet.

I would say the sub is probably a write-off especially if someone has tried using it in that state as the coil could have cooked itself (the voice coil in a speaker gets warm when electricity is passed through it and it relys on the fact it is moving to get the heat away.

In regards to the door speaker - who knows, could be a cable off the back of it, could have done what the sub in the boot has done or could have been run well into clipping and cooked the voice-coil

This is why if my car goes anywhere the headunit facia stays with me so the stereo cant be turned on

Maybe the stereo was left on too loud when used previously, and all the valeter did was turn it down?

3. If this isn't resolved I think he wants to go down the route of small claims, but wouldn't he need burden of proof?
I think that you mean "wouldn't he need proof"? As claimant, the bloke would bear the burden of proving on the balance of probabilities that his property was damaged while in the care of the car wash company. That company owed a duty to take reasonable care of the property. If the bloke can satisfy the Court that the system was undamaged when the car was collected (he could do that by giving evidence and being believed), then it would reasonably be inferred that the damage occurred while the car was in the care of the company.

mApparently the young lad that doesn't like loud noises is actually a big fan of heavy metal..
Very quiet heavy metal I assume. He has it turned all the way down to 1.

yes

Would have had the bking from hell if he had walked into the office with a sheepish face and a dose of contrition.

For making the boss look a twot having relied on his 'wasn't me' reply is almost certain "and don't let the door hit your arse on the way out" territory.

Good on the lad for being honest...so who was it that said he didn't like loud noises and couldn't have been him? Presumably one of the managers?!

But belatedly honest.

If one of my Team come to me and admit to a mistake they get a few well chosen words of advice.

If one of my Team try to cover it up and only own up if caught out they are shown the door.

Good outcome, tell him when he gets the new one to set up the sub gain vs HU volume correctly, that way you can't blow it up by running it at full chat. Its kinda like the audio version of a rev limiter.

Sadly, most HUs allow you to turn even the pre-amp up into clipping, so, while you may be able to avoid something this drastic, your speakers can still end up seriously damaged by a numpty frown
