Hi Guys,

This weekend I am heading down to Bike Park Wales to have a bit of fun on two wheels, and figured that rather than suffer the M6->M5 slog I could possibly spend a bit more time on some of the winding roads of Wales. Thoroughly loved an earlier tour of the Highlands this year so might as well go for that effect again!

I'll be travelling Friday morning/afternoon: are there any suggestions for route? I'm going in a Volvo S60, so it's a bit of a pudding on really winding roads - didn't make Bealach Na Ba any less fun when I did it though!

Cheers,
Blueacid

Mold - Ruthin a494 >>> A5 just west of corwen
West along A5 toward Cerriydridion but left down the B4501 toward Bala
Come to the A4212 to Bala doing a staggered straightover on to the B4391.
Head for Llanrhaedr Ym Mochnant and then, same number road, right for Llanfyllin.
(if you've time you can pop up to Lake Vyrnwy. Nice roads around there. THere's also a route over from Bala to Vyrnwy but quite narrow in parts)

Continue for Welshpool initially but after Bwlch y Cibau where you turn right a mile or two after stay on road through Meiford - A495 >>> Llanfair Caereinion.
join a458 and turn left to Llanfair C - in the village turn on to New Road(white road) heading for Carno on the A470

Right along A470 toward Llanbrynmair and right for Machynlleth at Cemmaes Road.

In Mach turn left opp. the hospital on to Forge Road and follow up and over to Dylife passing the viewpoint for the gorge on the left before reaching the B4518 and turning right for Llanidloes passing the Clywedog resrvoir on your right.

In Llani, go right over the birdge then left at the small roundabout passing Hafren Motors on the left. To the large roundabout on the by-pass and turn right along the A470 >>>> Llangurig
At the Llangurig roundabout turn left for Rhayader.

In Rhayader - if you want to the Elan Valley loop head right on to West St.
then return to the clock tower crossroads and turn right on to South Street.
>>>> to Newbridge On Wye

Choice 1 - turn right on to the B4358 >>> Beulah then left along A483 to Garth and turn right on to the B4519
Choice 2 - continue to Builth Wells. In to town over the bridge and follow right through town along the A483 and out going through Cilmery before reaching Garth and turn left on the B4519

B4519 - follow up over the Epynt ranges (beware of army ordnance flying by wink)
At the B4520 turn right for Upper Chapel then Lower Chapel and on to Brecon.

next stop Merthyr up the A470

Nothing to add, but subbing for the route. Looking to book an uplift day next month.

Many thanks indeed - I didn't stick precisely to your route - toward the end I headed more directly to save a bit of time, but what a beautiful drive it was! Felt quite tired afterwards though, was quite a long run (4 hours) of single carriageway roads, certainly no real chance to relax like you might get on an emptier stretch of motorway. Also, there were a few of the 45-50 everywhere brigade, although there were quite a few opportunities to overtake smile

Thanks for the time you spent typing this; I enjoyed driving it! Although overall limping a bit after running out of talent on one corner at the bike park...!

Cheers,

A49 to Hereford. Take the Brecon road when you get to Hereford. Or take the A49 and turn right pretty much anywhere south of Shrewsbury.

It's about 2 hours from Hereford to Warrington and ~50 min from Hereford to Brecon.
