The events/murders you list were all bomb attacks, which are quite distinct from the type
of brazen, unsophisticated walk up attacks that that could well have occured today, and could be carried out any looney acting alone.
The murder of Olof Palme the Swedish prime minister should be an example to the protection officers who were so ineffective today.

Sooner or later some crazy terrorist outfit or mad loner will whack a top politican in broad daylight at close range and we will instantly be aghast when we realise how stty security has been in the face of the ever present threat that they face. It really is shocking at how vulnerable they are; only slightly less shocking is the fact that this hasn't been exploited yet. Hopefully the proverbial lessons will be learned from this event.
I'm guessing your too young to remember the mainland attacks by the IRA then? Grand Hotel Brighton? Earl Mountbatten? Airey Neave? Ian Gow? Mortar attack on No. 10, I'm sure there are others to add to that list.

I think on the whole, as a country, we shrug of the threats of terrorist attacks quite well and don't let it ruin our day to day lives.
I was just going to say the same about must be 'young' (perhaps his username gives it away!).

Perhaps they don't teach 'em anything today about the past, even the recent past?
Anyway Junior so you can learn a bit, take MP Airey Neave, his car was blown up 'while' he was leaving the House of Commons.

This is one of the ruling class and for most of us their wrongs will never be met with any kind of comeuppance. Look at bLiar, most of you guys want him hung.

I'm not anything about CMD, he's just another printed person born to lead us like the rest of them.

The hypocrisy on this website though sometimes equals the daily mails comment section.

Very true!

But then look at how tight the security is for POTUS, they've had 4 presidents assassinated, plus 2 presidential deaths that were rumoured to be assassinations, 2 injured by attempts, and every president since Kennedy has been threatened with assassination, not a very good reflection when you consider just how much security follows the president round. Now it could be argued that because we don't have easy access to firearms in this country, we've only had one PM assassinated, and that was way back in 1812.

I can still remember when anyone could walk up to No.10 and being able to have your photo taken with the solitary, unarmed, copper stood outside. I really do think that because we have been invaded/attacked so many times in history that we simply shrug, both perceived and real, threats off.

Wonder what the spin will be today. All under control all the time?

Probably a few will be "managed to new positions".

A few? I doubt any of his CP team will be on today's detail. All will be back in the DPG pool and some back on the beat.

I wrote a long and detailed post explaining in detail how I detest the emergence of delusional idiot posters on PH, but frankly I couldn't be bothered to get into a debate with idiots with tinfoil hats and too much time on their hands, so I distilled it down to it's true essence.

Sorry.

Don't worry. MrBrightSi came across as a tt, and you rightly called him on it.

Nothing strange about saying it like it is. All of this 'born to rule', 'ruling classes', blah blah blah. We're all born differently - about time some got over it. You'd like to think that sort of pettiness would be left in the playground where it belongs, not shouldered as a terrible encumbrance throughout your adult years.

No need to be so patronising. I was 2 1/2 when Airey Neave was killed but I should think I know as much about that attack as you do.

I think this, and simply the embarrassment of the potentially dangerous security breach, must be why the official channels were being told to spin the story in the way they did. Watching the video footage, in my mind the 'jogger' was intent on making contact with the PM - certainly something looked amiss.

It was definately on purpose, might not have been planned, but he ran into him, instead of avoiding. His reaction on facebook - (that it was he that was attacked) - is pretty telling.

Surprised no one has mentioned this in relation to the George Galloway attack; he is a MP right?

There was a security expert on the TV this morning saying that it was totally unacceptable the way the protection officers handled this. I agree - what a complete disgrace. Talk about taking your eye off the ball.

He shouldn't have got within 20 yards of the PM.

Had that been Obama, the guy would have been shot, no question about it.

And that makes it ok for some Israel loving loony to kick the shi7 out of him in broad daylight?

If this 'jogger' had got to Cameron and hit him because he didn't agree with his policies or whatever, you'd be ok with that, right?

Do grow up . . . . !
