Cinturatos were all the rage in the 60's for 10" wheel Minis, what's the chances of those being produced? The market is certainly there. I was responsible for the first import of Dunlop R7s for 10" wheels a few years ago and didn't have any problem shifting those at £90 a corner!

I want to buy a Dunlop Aquajet 185 14 tyre if anybody has one they want to sell, bad tracking has ruined my front offside tyre.
Thanks

Dougal, any suggestions for a 215/60/15 track tyre that's road legal?

Hi.

yes i believe some Mini's left the factory on a Cinturato tyre. we do currently sell a Dunlop 145R10 Aquajet http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/145sr10-dunlo... which is £ 111 inc VAT. and at this price i do not sell enough to warrent another quality tyre in this size considering that a Cinturato would probably cost more. However it isn't completely out of the question, in the future and if we do get this to go ahead with Pirelli then i shall do my best to let the Mini comunity know.

There is some new good news for the Mini comunity. Michelin are presently in the process of reproducing the 145/70R12 XZX which will appear on this page when it is produced http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/michelin-xzx-...

I don't think Dunlop have made this tyre for a long time. If they are more than 10 years old you don't really want to be driving on them anyway.

Currently the tyre of choice in this size is the Michelin MXV-P http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/185hr14-miche...

What car is it for?

Is it a Triumph Stag? The Triumph Stag is a fascinating car for tyre fitment. It is a comon belief that bigger tyres are better on cars of this period; but that's not nessecarily true and the Stag is a fine example. It started production with 185R14, then in the mid 70's it changed to a 175HR14 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/175hr14-miche... and it was the 175HR14 Michelin XAS tyre they fitted, so it wasn't done just to be cheap as some people might suggest. If you wanted to fit a cheaper tyre there were plenty out there. Triumph fitted a smaller tyre because it improved the handling. They didn't fit wide low profile tyres, because that spoils the handling. However these days so many Triumph owners repeatedly ruine the handling of there cars by fitting modern low profile tyres that have nothing to do with the handling of a rear wheel drive sports car of that period

Yep 215/60VR15 Avon CR6ZZ http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/215-60vr15-av...

However if you are not overly picky about size the Michelin make a 215/55R15 TB15, semi slick TB5 and wet PB20 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/michelin-tb15... which is very close to your size, these tyres are outstanding if you can use them.

Thanks for your reply.
You are right it is a Triumph Stag.
Regarding tyres for the Triumph Stag I personally think nothing looks better on a stag than 185R14 tyres, I did try a set of 175hr14 tyres for a brief period but they looked too narrow imho, some people have fitted up to date sizes but they seem to look odd to me perhaps it's the lack of a kerbing ring. All the tyres I've used seem to be ok on the handling but I'm no speed demon in my car and try to avoid going out in the wet if possible so I can't really give a fair appraisal.

Here is a nice Stag/Michelin advert. I think this advert is when Triumph mover onto Michelin XAS tyres in the size 175HR14 https://www.borrani.com/en/michelin-tyres/xas/175h... I think that will be the handling tyre of choice.

However if you like the diameter of a 185HR14. (which is understandable because it will give longer legs on Motorways, and extra clearance) Then the tyre is again a Michelin https://www.borrani.com/en/michelin-tyres/mxv-p.ht... The difference between a the carcase of the Michelin XAS or MXV-P when fitting them on cars like a Stag makes a massive difference.

I have a Jaguar MKVIIM, currently on crossply's which, whilst they look (and drift) right, are a bit of a wandering pain on modern rutted main roads. What are the best radial options in your opinion?

Hi

personally i think it is a shame Michelin don't make a tyre in this size. they are planning on making a Pilote X like this one https://www.borrani.com/en/michelin-tyres/pilot-x.... but i don't have a date for it at present. These 600WR16 tyres are sadly nearly an inch smaller in diameter than the original 670H16 Dunlop RS5 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/670h16-dunlop...

so for now the best radial is the 670VR16 Avon TurboSteel these are still a bit less than half an inch smaller than the original crossply so i think this would be the tyre of choice for now

Just placed an order for another 525x21 lucas tyre and suited inner tube. My question is this :

My pre 1930 car has steel artillery wheels, as such the inner tube valve has to poke through the hole in the wheel and this can cause possible damage to the outer case of the valve. Do you sell the threaded steel valve protectors?

Not a lot out there really. the closest i think will be something from the TB range of tyres http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/michelin-tb15...

probably this one http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/20-53-13-mich... or this in a semi slick http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/20-53-13-mich... you have obviously got very wide rims.

Hi

I shouldn't worry about it. this has been the same for 80 years. we do sell some metal valve stemmed tubes but they cause more failures than rubber valve stems.

If you have an over sized hole in your rim we supply a plastic collar that protects it. just give us a ring 01302 711123. or pop in and we'll fit 'em for nowt.

this car here has rubber valve stems and goes well over a hundred miles an hour, but i would rather have rubber valves than metal
