was the top model the Ambassador?
It was a 'updated' Princess marketed as a new car, it incorporated a hatchback which the Princess didn't have.

Proceeding about my business in an orderly manner one day, many years ago, I saw several car transporters loaded with them before they were announced. I couldn't see what make they were and was just fascinated by them. They were so different. I guessed Alfa Romeo. I was wrong. They were BL. The cards were stacked against them from the start.
How could you have got that so wrong, they must have been covered by a cardboard box hehe

Alfa's and Lancia's had lines that were elegant and were things of beauty compared to most other manufactures at the time. Italian cars were very distinctive in their design, they defiantly stood out from the crowd.

That.........Rear heavy, weighty looking rotten wedge of cheese, hateful hateful things.

Can you tell I don't like them biggrin

Yes, I'd forgotten the exquisite design produced by the Italians, like the Ital... Turn in your grave Giugiaro!!!

They were very popular in period, but mainly because they were a cheap source of 4-pot brake calipers at the scrapyards. biggrin

On two recent occasions, at 'classic' shows locally there have been swathes of the hotted up Volvo estate S70/V70??) and dozens of MX5's - neither of which fit the age criteria - the Volvos getting pride of place whilst our Ferrari was shoved in with the 'kit cars' and a handful of assorted British sports (which were all 'old enough' and very nice)

Surely a 35 year old Princess should have been allowed in wink
1. Was this actually a classic car show, or just a car show?
2. What's wrong with MX5s being in a classic car show - Mk1s at least? The first Mk1s are now 24 years old and I can remember MGs and Triumphs in car shows in the 90's - just over 10 years after production had ceased on some of them. And that's just using age as a measure of a classic.
3. Since when has age been the only criteria for judging a classic car?
4. It's wrong that your Ferrari was sent to the kit car section - based on your name/profile pic it's a 355 so 1994 at best, so by your own logic it's not a classic (doesn't fit the are criteria) and should have been in the general visitor car park!

1/ Yes. Andrew Greenwood at Arley Hall - I think he bills it as classic and sports...
2/ Some of the MX's were 'old' many were much newer.
3/ It isnt - they are AG's rules 1999 and earlier
4/ Mine is a 1999 - well spotted wink

The volvo fit neither classic OR sports wink

Tatton Classic is much stricter as is the Event City show (although if you booked a brand new leFarrera in I guess they wouldnt turn it down smile

My XKR is 1999 I wouldn't call it a classic as such.
I think it has to do with the age of the person looking at the car perhaps.
for me classics are TR6's.Sunbeam Alpines,E Types etc cars from my youth.
Ford Escorts are from the era when I drove them and I find it hard to think of them as a classic certainly not the ordinary 1300L etc but they fetch silly money these days

there was an awful lot of cars let with far more dubious claims to classic status (eg MK2 Golfs, 80's Peugeots (not even Gtis) etc) .. maybe the bloke on the gate just doesn't like Princesses?

When I joined PH in 2007 I was driving an M reg Audi, when I started posting I was driving a K reg Discovery. Lads were posting cars younger than that in "oldest daily driver" threads. I wasn't intentionally driving a classic, I was just getting around.

Andrew Greenwood will pretty much let in anything if it's slightly interesting. Particularly if attendance is a bit low. Different rules apply if your on a club stand. Thus you get brand new Jag's turning up a displaying with their club.

I actually remember going to a BL main dealer for the launch of the Ambassador.
Not saying that I am going to rush out and buy one but they seem to be ageing OK.
