I have had the RS6 (2009 - V10) for the past 2 years. I love it.

I have to say, I have had a lot of cars and have a GT3, M3, Integrale and the RS6 at the moment. Honestly mate, the RS6 is the best car out there for a daily hack. Comfort wise the leather is heads and shoulders above the Mercs, BM's in the same class.

On the RS7, I know its rapid and I had it out with one the other morning. Was exactly the same, head to head.

Personally, I think that the rear end on the RS7 is mingin..akin to when the M6 came out. I think you have to be 50 plus to have that car. If you are 50 plus...then rocknroll.

However I think that the RS4, RS5 (although 2 door!) and RS6 look 10 times harder. The RS7 looks too "Exec" in my opinion. Besides...how much space do you need? If you have kids then the RS6 is more than big enough, as is the RS4 as I found out yesterday when I looked at one.

So...if you dont want a wagon then you could always go for an S4 or S6. Still damn good cars and rapid. Of course, I am saying this for our European lot, who get spanked for fuel tax. I am in the Middle East...so fuel is not really an issue.

My thoughts. RS6 of RS4 all the way. If you dont have kids, then the RS5 is an option too.

Either way. They are all awesome.

And if you want the leg room in the back but don't need a hatchback the S8 is suitably subtle with big stick

I quite like the rs7 though - got used to the back end and at least I can tell them apart from our S5 Sportback!

I don't like the back either. In absence of RS6 saloon, and because of VFM I got a D4 S8. Same weight as RS6, about 40 BHP less, no coil spring option - all on air which is a bit higher and softer than the RS models. I think it is fabulous as a road car, I would not wish it firmer or softer overall on 21s for summer, yet to try the 19s for winter.

I quite like the RS7 (I'm only 28, old before my time?) but the wheel options are bloody awful. I think given the choice of an RS6 or 7 I'd go 6 just because sub 4 seconds in an estate car is mental and they a fantastic drive.

You can't really compare the 6/7 to the 4/5 as they are so much quicker, so much nicer to sit in and just generally more refined. I say all this as a former owner of an RS5 and current owner of an RS4 who couldn't afford/justify the 6.
