Saw Gregory Porter live at the York Barbican last night. Found myself totally mesmerized for the duration of the concert. I'm not sure whether it was the attire of the band, the lighting or simply the music ... or a combination of all of the above, but the atmosphere radiating from the stage was quite extraordinary. I felt as though we were in some dusty jazz bar in Manhattan - you know - the kind of place that you only know about if you're one of the people that know about it (if that makes any sense) a few feet from the hustle and bustle going obliviously about its chaos on the street just outside, being regaled with stories of events in places as far reaching as Detroit, Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans, San Francisco ... I could go on. Gregory Porter's singing is amazing - the richness, depth and range of his voice is a joy to behold and the extraordinary musicianship being practised by his band was stunning. To top it off he came into the lobby afterward to meet everyone - the OH and I both got our tickets signed, he posed for a photo with my OH and shook my hand when I thanked him for the evening's entertainment. Warm, humble and a true gent. If an ounce of our soul cares about music then I'd strongly recommend seeing him if you get the chance.

He is a bit special. In fact this has just determined what I'll put on while giving the baby her breakfast.

Did you ask him the tricky question of what the dodgy headwear is all about?
