I have a Wedi Fundo Plano shower tray to fit to existing solvent welded 40mm waste pipe run. Will I be able to solvent weld to the outlet pipe that is built in to the tray or do I have to use push fit/compression?

The joint will be covered with mortar as per the instructions with the tray.

The tray and outlet pipe look like this...

Depends on the material of the waste/trap.

If it's not ABS use one of these to get onto solvent weld,

Can you mortar over one of those?

Not a Wedi man myself but depending on it's diameter and material you should be able to use a straight solvent weld coupler.

The Impy wet room trays have a ball joint type fitting to get the fall from the trap, then you glue into it your pipe. I'm assume Wedi is similar in design.

The pipe is angled to the correct fall. It starts off at one diameter and then there's a step to a wider diameter towards the drain. The instructions show that in the UK the pipe should be cut at the wider part. I assume this is for 40mm solvent weld.

Having a fitting in your hand would be easiest.
