I have a new F Type coupe its now about 3 weeks old.

Is it just me are as anyone else had trouble closing the hood. The recommended procedure is quite brutal and the last time took me about six attempts and I dread opening the dammed thing again.

Why don't you take it back to the dealer, and ask them go show you how to do it. If and when they can't, it may need adjusting. Not good granted, but more logical than moaning about it on a forum.

I was not moaning ,Just trying to find out if I`m useless or if others found the same problem. and the first thing I did was to take it back to the dealer on the second day.

My XF needs a really good slam to shut the bonnet. Got to say much prefer the gentle close. I remember once leaving the distributor cap on the battery when I closed the bonnet by slamming it. Oops. After that I always lowered it gently and then pushed it shut. The jag needs slamming.

Not just me and my OH then!

I found it quite embarrassing, having shown someone what lies beneath the bonnet, to find I could not close it. After my other half failed 1st attempt, we eventually sorted it. If you look from the front of the car, for us its the right hand catch that doesn't seem to hold without considerable force.

Going in for adjustment tomorrow.

Pull bonnet down past half way. If on the RHS of the car lean over and place right on hand as close to the centre of the bonnet as you can towards the back edge and push down firmly without slamming. Bob's your uncle. Must have done it 100 times, never fails.

Because its a clamshell and Its so big it can be tricky to close, definitely needs a firm hand.

My dealer told me to stand at the front of the car and place my hands on both air intakes, then lean forward. You need to be firm but it has worked every time.

Never try to close it from just one side of the bonnet, that's one big piece of aluminium that flex's quite easily. As others have said, close from the centre and you shouldn't have a problem.
