Hi all

I need to replace the free Technicolor Plusnet Router in the family home as it's signal barely extends beyond the lounge. I have the same in my one bedroom flat which also barely penetrates the wall between the lounge and the bedroom yet does allow me to connect from the carpark across the street. Obviously the big windows help biggrin

I originally had a Netgear in the house that even spread a decent signal into the garden and into the loft room on the second floor.

What would be a good replacement for a reasonable price? This is to replace a wireless router/modem for normal old internet.

Cheers.

I've got the same router and it quite happily extends through several walls in a 2 bed flat. Mine is at one end of the flat and my bedroom at the other. I barely get any signal drop off. It does depend on the construction of your walls though smile

It's much better than my old Sky router ever was.

As plusnet are nice you can pretty much use any ADSL router, just find one that suits.

I use the Plusnet technicolor one as an extender for upstairs and it works fine.

Have you tried using a different channel maybe?

Before replacing it, use something to look at the Wifi networks to see if you can change it to a clear channel.

S-I-L has the same router and the signal goes a fair way though stone walls.

If you want to replace it the TP-LINK TD-W8970 is good for a budget.

But I'd maybe look to getting some powerline adaptors with a wifi access point on the remote one (i.e. plug one in next to your router, the other were you want the wifi extending to)

Thanks all, I had got to PC World before I saw your replies. Got a Netgear N300 and set it to the lowest speed 54mps as the house only gets 6 tops. Seems to have sorted the problem although the kids are complaining that their iPhones are still getting a weak signal.

Laptops are fine though. Cheers.
