was a great looking Car though. I think I would be tempted to play a bit of a game with them now and see how much they would discount it for pre Christmas delivery

Found anything else yet Julian?

I bought a DBS I couldn't really afford about 18 months ago from JCT600 in Leeds who I have to say worked extremely hard to assist me, and I have never regretted it for a moment. The car was prepped to perfection when I picked it up. The old Vanquish never appealed to me the same way, and neither does the new Vanquish.

There is nothing like it imho.

PS There are a hell of a lot of them on the market just now, so maybe a good time.

Hi again

Not found anything else yet - also not got my deposit back as they want me to prove I paid it!!!

I asked them to return it to the card they took it from, but no - I have to provide them with evidence of which account it came from first.

So despite the fact that the salesman confirmed the transaction went through at the time, the invoice showed the deposit as a credit against the balance of payment and he subsequently was able to recall the name of the bank I paid from, I now have to prove I made the payment before they will return it!!!

I have been so busy before Christmas and then with the family holiday itself that I haven't had the time to dig through statements yet, but obviously I am going to have to now.

So even though they are still sat on a £1,000 of my money and have managed to knock a further £3,500 off the price (when they couldn't budge by a penny when I was trying to buy it) I just can't bring myself to consider purchasing it.

Still looking though, also considering a Vanquish S again - any thoughts on this one:

Cheers all and happy new year!

No doubting that this Vanquish has had a good life. 78k miles in 8 years and £65k spent on it's upkeep. IIRC that was about your budget for the DBS but your running costs are going to be a lot higher than the DBS. Hopefully someone with Vanq experience will come along with a view on buying with 78k on the clock and say what you need to budget to keep it going.

Hi Ian

I've just had a call from Grange about this:

Looks to be very good value, any thoughts?

I am speechless regarding the ongoing original dealer behaviour.

I know nothing but think that Vanquish could be an ongoing labour of love as it was for the previous owner.

The Grange DBS does, all things considered, look to be the best value DBS currently for sale in the dealer network.

Agree that this looks to be very good value and low mileage as well. Far better value that the Stratstone car you were looking at. Younger, lower mileage and cheaper.

I have bought four Astons from Grange in Exeter and always found them very decent to deal with. Who are you speaking to? Lloyd or Jamie? Both good guys.

Very good value indeed. Having just picked my one up yesterday I'd advise you to not hang about and get it bought!! You won't regret it. Great colour, great car and good dealership.

Hi Ian

Just got off the phone with Lloyd, was originally speaking with Will at Brentwood.

Both are absolutely excellent guys.

Also could be interested in this:

How is the stick shifter? What about residuals? I am getting high again on Aston now I have found a great dealership (even though that is going to put the indoor swimming pool back a bit rolleyes)

Cheers

If your budget can stretch to it I would go for the youngest one I could afford. The demand for DBS' is strong and good cars go quick. Both are good colours with the Bond connection with the DBS. They are very special cars and I love the alloys on the Exeter car but that will be personal choice.

You need to try the manual version but I think that the manual will be the one that keeps it's value best as it is more charismatic. I have a manual V12VR and love it. I have never driven a DBS a but everyone I have spoken to love it as much as I love mine.

Forget the swimming pool - and get it bought.

Schwimming pool??? The novelty will soon wear off and those gas bills ;-) "Get it bought"!

That O/S rear wheel isn't filling its arch on the Quantum Silver one - could be camber in the road, but do keep an eye when you are kicking the tyres. Hopefully these dealers deal!

I see they haven't improved since I almost bought a Vantage off them a few years ago. I had agreed all the figures and went in to sign for the car, the salesman tried to knock £500 off the price of my RS4 as he hadn't noticed the front tyres were on 3mm the first time he gave it a quick once over, I just walked out and never went back. About 3 weeks later the car was reduced by £2500, so they took a hit rather than give me the £500 we had already agreed on, bizarre place, it still bugs me three years on. I dread to think what they are like if anything goes wrong the car, you done the right thing by walking.

Don't get me started on Stratstone mad Their service/after care service was that bad, that I had to e-mail and personally speak to the Stratstone Aston Brand Director, to get anything sorted out when I purchased my car from them.

I was so disappointed with the service, I have removed any Stratstone logo and signage from my car, change number plates etc, as I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and certainly don't want their name on my car!

Anyway, If I was you, I wouldn't do any business with them and would look elsewhere. They didn't give me any negotiating room, in fact they actually said they wouldn't negotiate with me over the price. As I was a little green, didn't know any better and over whelmed by the fact I was going to purchase an Aston Martin, I purchased my car anyway. (The after sales is a long, long story.....)

I do hope you get what you are looking for, but I wouldn't get it from Stratstone I would rather wait yes

How much does it cost to give great Customer service, well a lot less than giving a lousy one.

Update Julian! Is the Bentley gone? Call the comedy business up with 90k and an offer of a group hug wink

Hi SELON and Ken, Yes - negotiations do seem to be going rather well!

£6,000 off what I would have paid when there was not a penny margin in the car!

The Bentley is still on my drive and I have decided to keep it no matter what I buy. I've actually come to realise that I really like it and it really is a great car. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and so to let it go for so little just makes no sense to me.

It is obviously tempting to revisit the Stratstone DBS, but I just can't bring myself to do business with them.

I've even considered getting an old DB9 just to get the ball rolling before going into something pricey. Marlow have this http://www.marlowcars.co.uk/aston-martin-db9-v12-i... and at that money I can at least get into an Aston whilst I wait for my 'ideal' car without worrying about losing a fortune - though at that mileage there could be some expensive bills I suppose.

Any thought?
