Hi,

I'll start by saying I've been somewhat ignorant of the tablet phenomenon, my only foray was buying my wife an iPAD for her 30th last year - I went into John Lewis and once the sales person talked me through the various option it seemed that the admittedly pricier iPAD was the real allrounder, so I got her one which she loves.

Recently however it's become clear that the big constraint is needing to rely on Wifi to get the best from it - so I'm looking to get her a new one on contract.

I have five lines with Vodafone so first port of call was there - iPAD air 16GB for £33/month (£9 upfront) gives 3GB of data. Sounds OK.

Meanwhile, three are doing the same device, £49 upfront, £36/month but with a Whooping 15GB of data - but apparently they are not 4G yet.

Question centres around three really, I had the misfortune of having a mobile with three when they first came out - it was practically unusable. Obviously they've been around the block since then, but on the face of it they still offer very good VFM.

Which is the better option? And is the AIR the right device? Does the AIR2 offer much more?

Thanks

Do you have a smart phone? I tether my iPad Air to my iPhone.

The iPad Air 2 is something like 4 times faster than the original Air.

I have an iPhone, wife has a Samsung - it doesn't seem to like pairing with the iPAD.

Four times faster - that's quite impressive!

Check out how much you will be paying over the term. A lot more than buying it outright and using the data allowance on your phone as above.

I just bought an Air 2 as I didn't have enough storage on my Air, it was only 16GB.

I would say that if money isn't a problem, get the Air 2. It's fast, the thinness is nice and I reckon it's always worth having the most up to date device if possible.

If money is an issue or it would just be nice to spend less, the original Air is a seriously good tablet. I doubt you'd notice the extra thickness or how it's slightly slower than the Air 2.

I did upgrade to an Air 2 but on reflection I would have been just as happy with a 64GB Air.

Someone posted this the other day and is a real bargin of a deal. He didn't post a link and I can't find it online. PMed him as to how to do it and no responce yet, but if he's right it means spending £7 more than getting the device direct from Apple, and you get 5GB worth of data for 2 years.

Thought I would share this deal in case anyone is looking at a new iPad. Phoned vodafone and got a iPad Air 2 64gb in space grey with 5gb of data per month for £21 per month including vat plus one off cost of £79. This works out as pretty much 5gb data for free every month.

Wow! Some deal! I await a call back from Vodafone, as I have 5 lines with them I'm supposed to be eligible for the best deals - we'll see

I wouldn't bother with contract - the PAYG options (e.g. from 3) give 6GB over a 90 day period for circa £20

Not a chance of getting near that I'm afraid. Eventually settled on £79 up front and £33/month for 3GB, that's for the 64GB device.

Not sure how that guy got it for what he said, that's insanely cheap - I didn't realise how new out it is.

Wife is happy anyway.
