I've got that chance to go on a 7 day course at BMW's riding training in Hertfordshire with work. After that, I can get then a get a company bike as well as car (perks of the job).

Question is, has anyone been who can recommend it, and also is it enough time to pass Staged Access (only 21)? I've done a CBT twice in the past, but never got on and sorted out getting a bike. Understand I need to do the theory side prior to this, but is 7 days enough training to pass and get an A2 licence with only 2 days of CBT training over the last 4 years.

Also, on a side note, I need to bring my own boots for this but apart from that they'll provide all the gear. Any recommendations?

With the theory out of the way, 7 days should be plenty to get you on the road in all fairness. I can't see why not

7 Days is loads of time, usually a full course inc CBT is around 5 days. And am I right in thinking this is beng paid for by your company?! Oh and yes you'll need to take another Mod 1 and 2 once you're elible to take the full A licence to upgrade.

It is a perk of the job yes, although I do have to pay BIK and find my own accommodation - what hardship hehe

So with this Staged Access, do I do a Mod 1 & 2, and then just have to do it again in two years time, or is it a slightly different test?

Good to know you both think that time was fine. I guess when I actually think about how long will be spent on a bike, it will probably be more than how much practice I did for the car. Plus it's all fresh in your mind.

They've got very nice roads around there and a good selection of bikes. Where I was there people were practising for their mod 1.

Company car and bike. OK, I'm jealous - you win.

Ahhh, that makes sense laugh what do you get as a company bike? Must be something like an f800, there's not much in the BMW range that is A2 compliant.

My first bike, an F800s had been one of these. 531 miles in 12 months!

We can pick from anything in the range. We kind of get a pot of benefits and a point allowances. Obviously the more expensive the bike is, the more points it will use.

I'll be honest though, know very little about bikes (probably not the best thing to be saying here) so happy to take what ever I'm given. I'm sure in time once I get more into my bikes I'll become as fussy as I am with a car. Top of the list is a R 1200 RS, but as you said, won't be able to get one of those on an A2.

Did the 7 day DAS in August. Previous experience was a couple of hours off road on a motocross bike.

Excellent course - good instructors and equipment. Enjoyed it and passed mod 1 & 2 1st time. I'm now the happy owner of a new street triple r :-).
