Hi all,

Currently have a pair of b&w dm303 speakers either side of my tv, which are driven by an old Technics stack system.

I‘d like to update things a little with a new amplifier or receiver, but I‘m unsure in which direction to go.

Why I want to upgrade:

1. Stack system is big and ugly, looks a mess.
2. Stack system doesn't have a remote control.
3. Would like to improve sq.
4. Would like to have more up to date connectivity such as bluetooth.
5. Would like to de-clutter especially re cables

Something like the Marantz MCR610 looks very appealing at first glance, but I have several sources to connect (main source: Spotify via minix neo x8h,cable box, xbox) and I'm not sure that has enough connectivity, particularly as my current system has two optical inputs.

So.. I'm open to suggestions.. budget is max 450gbp.

Thanks!

No idea at that budget, but if Spotify is your main source look for something with Spotify connect built in - it's ace.

A mid-priced Denon AV receiver. Plenty of inputs. Normally some deals to be had on "last year's models" from Richer Sounds.

Not sure what you'd pay for one - but look for a 2nd hand Arcam Solo. Not sure exactly how many inputs you get with this, but for a 'one-box' solution, the sound is pretty good. Also worth looking at Onkyo, again probably 2nd hand for that price but a great piece of kit for the money.

Sounds like a decent little integrated amp might be a good option for you. For the money this is a very good one:

Doesn't have bluetooth and fancy connections, just all about good hifi.

You could always add a Sonos Connect or similar at a later date if wireless spotify/similar connectivity is a requirement.

Alternative option - Denon Dm39DAB + Q Acoustic 2020i (or 2010i) speakers. Neat set-up that has a USB input for iPhone/ipad connection - remote can be used to go forward and back through tracks on iPad or iPhone. I have this setup in the study and it always impresses how good it sounds for around £300 all in and that's with comparison with about £6ks worth of kit in the living room. biggrin
