i didnt see an introduction thread so i will say hi here....

im within days of buying an E90 BMW 320d or 318d M Sport....i have earmarked one of each but havent decided whats more important, the leather interior, 184bhp, 17" wheels with normal tyres etc. off the 320d or the £30 tax, slightly higher MPG, 18" wheels with RFT off the 318d.

another dilemma i have, and this is the big one....i have just recently come across 2 318d Performance Edition models within my £13k budget and im loving them....what i really need to know and i was hoping to get from this forum is the difference between the M Sport and the Performance Edition, mainly, does the Performance Edition come with M Sport suspension or any other M badged items....is it just an M Sport with better fuel economy or is it a completely different car.....

i have looked on the internet but dont seem to be able to find any info about the 318d Performance Edition....

any help or info would be greatly appreciated....

thanks.....

For convenience Read the thread here on the "325d manual v auto" and then use the links in the later post to find Vin Number (last 7 digits is all you need) of your car/s of interest and then use that for build sheet; that should tell you if the 318 has the sports suspension. Should say M sport suspension.

thanks for the response Smuler....the reg link in that thread requires me to register and seem to be for the actual vehicle owner so i cannot get the ViN No. this way...i have just searched the internet for something similar but all require a subscription....im going to have a look at the 318d PE tomorrow so would still appreciate any other info anyone can provide....

thanks again Smuler...

Generic answers can be flawed as sometimes sports suspension was deleted by first owner; so you need to be sure what's on your car of interest. however, for a generic answer the auto express article says they have sport seats / suspension so fingers crossed you should be okay.

The performance edition 3 series is based on the ES model but with the following upgrades:

M-sport body kit
multi-function leather steering wheel
sport seats (cloth)
floor mats with blue piping
18-inch alloys
chrome tailpipe
London 2012 exterior badges

OP an M sport spec car is likely to be a higher spec vehicle. The performance edition is literally just a £500 pack on an ES.

I recently bought a 2011 BMW 320d Sport Performance edition finished in White, my dad has an older E90 320d M-sport in Le-mans Blue, my car has more in the way of extra styling over and above his, granted his is an older car being a 57 plate, but this surely doesn't add much weight to the fact that the Performance edition is just a relatively small £600 upgrade over the SE model? If this is the case this upgrade is a bargain in my opinion!

Mine has heated sports front seats, factory tinted windows, blue stitching on the black leather dakota interior, 18" alloys finished in a darker grey, sports suspension and the same or veryvery similar body kit although the bonnet on mine has a 'v' molded into the bonnet and the dash inserts are aluminium. Mine is 183bhp stock and his 172 bhp stock. I have driven both lots, and despite mine being newer with lower milage they both drive almost indentically, although I would genuingly say that mine is noticably quicker on acceleration in standard map. This is despite my dads being re-mapped up to 215BHP. His car despite being a 57 plate is still sub 80k mileage and in fantastic condition as it is very well looked after.

That is the Sport Plus trim (not Sport Performance - that does not exist as far as I know on E90's) which provides you with everything the M Sport trim does as standard and in addition: Dakota Black leather seats with blue stitching, darker ferrite chrome 18 inch alloys, privacy glass, darker exhaust tip, Edition grille (fully chrome) and Edition door sills (rather than M Sport ones), bluetooth calling... and there might be a few other things too which I can't think of just now.
