M5 to M6 Gran Coupe
Discussion
Evening folks,
I'm an M5 man, love them to bits....have an F10 monster, had a beastly V10 and still dream about E39s.
Wondering what next....sat in an M6 Gran Coupe yesterday, it felt very right.....and what a great looking car, eh?
Now thinking about making the jump, but arguing with myself.....M5 is a man's car, M6 feels/looks great, but not sure about the image.
So what's what chaps....stick and enjoy, or get a new haircut/blow dry and get the M6??

Well I like Alpine White with the Sakhir Leather, IMO the M6 GC with CP is a mile in front of my X M5 LCI.
I found driving the M5 people thought it was a 5 series diesel , Ha Ha, only the enthusiast had any idea what the car was.
That would be ok for many I suppose though , but paying all that money for a 5 series . Na Luckily I lost little in PX so happy.

Prior to purchasing my M5 I test drove a 640d with a view to taking advantage of the ridiculously good deals available on the M6GC (the M6 not being available to test drive). I really liked the styling but couldn't get comfortable with the width of the car - it felt too large for my local roads.
The M6GC is undoubtedly more visually stunning than the M5, but I believe the styling may date quicker. I'd liken it to the original Merc CLS in this way.

It is indeed a wide car, but only a little wider than an M5, less than half an inch in fact. The M6GC is undoubtedly more visually stunning than the M5, but I believe the styling may date quicker. I'd liken it to the original Merc CLS in this way.

Mind you, little things can make a big difference!

Drove the M6GC today, very nice interior much more modern than M5 but steering felt like it had slightly less feel in standard mode, much too quiet as well.
Looks fantastic compared to the 5 series and clearly a class above.
But the drive was disappointing in comparison so much so that I didn't want to hand over a big lump to change. Jumped back in my F10 M5 and instantly felt at home.... a better more focused drive IMHO.

Totally agree on the styling differences & visually the M6GC is a tad more interesting than the M5, but i'd be hard pushed to want to swap from an F10 M5 into the M6GC as of for me it's inside i spend most of my time & the driving i'm interested in so the swap would really only feel like an F10 M5 with a prettier dress on at the cost of some interior space & functionality.
Mechanically other than a couple of KG's in weight they're the same car so will drive the same as each other & thus why spunk a load of cash to drive the same car again?
Whilst i agree with the prettier dress concept in some cars such as the Audi TT for instance is just a rebadged Golf or whatever the relevant Skoda variant is, or the Jag X-Type was basically a Mondeo, however even though mechanicals are linked, they drive & feel very different as well as looking different, the M6GC will surely feel more like an F10 M5 that a proper big elephant sat on
Also (& i know the deals currently are great), but who in their right mind would spend £30k extra on one. If the deals about last year on the M5 had been on the M6 GC too & the cars were the same price, i'd probably have opted for the M6GC, but they're certainly not twice the car & thus was never going to be worth twice the money.

The M6GC is one of the best practical cars I've ever owned. I much prefer the looks to the M5, its ultra comfortable, stupidly fast for its size, has decent traction (dry roads help..!), and I've spent the last few weeks looking for something to buy as a replacement but not seen anything I fancy as much.
