Hi all, I have the 18inch 219 alloys on mine that have 265/40 rear tyres. The alloys are 18 and 9.5 wide and I want to get some winter tyres. Seen a set of winters for sale on a set of 219 alloys which will make it easier to swap each year but the rears are 255/40 instead of 265/40 is that ok, better or bad for winter etc?

Should be better as narrower section tyres cut through snow, standing water etc better, although marginally less dry grip owing to reduced contact area. My boxster rears are 265 yet the official Porsche winter tyre option is a 255 section rear - same profile.

Try and find some of the official winter wheels from BMW. They worked very well for me and were 235 all round. Ebay normally has a few sets for sale.

I've heard the 235 sets look awkward at the rear?

I just had slightly down sized winters on my E9* 18's. 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 IIRC. Essentially, standard E46 sizes, not "M" sizes. Never had a problem with them and they looked fine. The proper E9* winters also look great.

Ok so still thinking... I have found a great set with what is the square set up above on 18's but as I have 18's already with 3-4mm on my summer tyres I'm thinking why not change to winters on the current set up (cheapest option) and get some 19's for the summer ?

Are the 19's much harsher than 18's even with the adaptive suspension?

Any recommendations to which 19 set up would be best for summer???

Should I just stick to the 18's all year round?

I ran 18s as track wheels and they were ever so slighty more comfortable than the 19s with EDC. Having said that, I drove around in sport for about 75% of the time.

i run the 260m as track wheels on my z4. These are pretty expensive now days and seem to be getting sort after due to not many people ordering them, so id run the proper winter wheels and keep these for your everyday summer duties. I see these gong on eBay for 1400+.

Really ? I couldn't sell mine, admittedly with a bit of kerb rash, for £400.

Been meaning to get rid of my 219s for a while now. Might have to get them out of the cellar and up on PH.

Will these fit on the 219 alloy sets, they are off a Porsche cayman and on eBay there are a few sets at good prices. The only difference to my current tyre set up is the fronts are 235 (winter) and 245 (summer)
