The yorkshire events list has started so is there an appetite to start Ph clubs?
Formal regions, drives out, meetings etc?

Was just thinking about this yesterday.
Often up for a drive, especially midweek.

If there is a regular outing, where is it published?

As far I am aware there are no set regular drives. There are drives that are planned by some members within this subforum but they seem to be invite only etc. Makes sense as you want to vet the drivers to some extent to avoid any asshattery.

Understable, but frustrating for those of us with no friends to go driving with laugh

I joined one of the groups for a drive last year, was a good way to spend a few hours and a decent bunch of chaps.

I think we'd struggle to get enough critical mass to justify anything formally organised. The West Yorks pub meet couldn't get enough regulars to survive.

No mystery to organising drives out though. Just plan a route and start time then post on here if you want company! Although once you've nominated yourself as organiser it can feel a bit stressful if you're that way inclined.

The last one I led my car had half the power of everyone behind me. That didn't seem to be a problem but then I got lost and one of the other drivers took over as he knew the area better. So as long as you do better than me then you're onto a winner smile

Talking of which, I've somehow failed to go on a proper run out for ages, with a group or otherwise. Had to get the Elise out for the commute today just to remember what it's like to drive it.

Sorry. I got confused by the use of the word club. Monthly meet is a different thing. The East Yorks meet was always well attended but, too far away from me now. The West Yorks meet, well, we kept it going successfully for several years until; it became something else.

Whether the North Yorks area has enough people willing to turn out once a month is another matter. I would.

The last open run out was posted by Stu about three weeks ago. It didn't get many takers though as I think it was last minute.

As you know Rich, open invite drives are always a lottery as you don't know who is going to turn up or, their capability/attitude. Were you on the one I did about eight years ago where a limit of fourteen cars turned into twenty-two on the morning due to some twit inviting his mates?

A meet might be good.
From that a driver may select who he/she may wish to drive with?

Agreed. That's the only problem with owning a Subaru really. Everyone just assumes that you are a knob! laugh

Shame this has only come up now. Weather has only really turned in last day or two. Doubt I'll be driving now until Spring.

No reason we can't have a social.

The Ackthorne
9 St. Martins Lane, York YO1 6LR,
Just off Micklegate

Few beers, maybe a meal, no commitment required.
If there is sufficient interest I'll stick up a specific thread.

I be really interested, but the Yorkshire section never seems to cater for the peasants in the South.

I'm now stuck with tagging my Impreza along with a Ford clubs run from Sheffield to Whitby on Sunday, which has a habit of using m/way and stopping every 45 minutes to natter, ultimately meaning when we get to Whitby no-ones got anything to say!

Would love to go out more with some enthusiastic drivers who care more about having a good drive through some nice scenery rather than endlessly polishing their cars.

Ditto.

I'd be up for that Rick, as would the Mrs. She's also a car nut biggrin

There's a nice route out towards Brid/Whitby from near me in the Garforth area. Might indulge myself this weekend. Supposed to be doing "stuff" though....

No idea about the pub you suggested Rick, but does it have a large car park? That is about the only pre-requisite for successful meets... although friendly staff and an open fire for winter is a nice bonus smile

The answer to that question is: no. Its inside the City Walls for one.

I know the Duke of York in Gate Helmsley welcomes Car groups. They already have the MG and Jag owners meets there. Easy enough to get too from the A64 and the centre of York.

I remember the chap on the Skoda Octavia VRs used to organise quite a few PH runs from the forums but then i think he went aboard? Correct me if im wrong, i usually are!

These used to be always good with at least 10 - 15 cars, the last one i went to ending up at barnard castle i think after meeting at scotch corner, i think my car drunk about half a tank following him just to get to the meeting point, that black thing shifted lol

I still have an old phone pic some where, let me go dig it out!

(Excuse the horrible camera photo, it was a while ago!)

Thoughts on a few social gatherings over the next few months with a drive in Spring once the weather has improved?
